All hoteliers will know there are bookings that should never have happened and this was one of them. The question of the spare bed was 100 per cent the guests mistake. The booking notes clearly show no demand for that extra bed because the bride who booked the rooms stated that she was OK for the beds to be pushed together as they were only kids she said. That is what we did. It took until past midnight for anyone to flag up the Z bed issue when the complaining guest was much the worse for drink. At this time two more of the same party were swearing and abusively complaining in the bar that they had been ripped off for drinks and were firmly corrected by my regulars that they were not and I firmly asked them to leave the bar. At breakfast two of the party arrived 15 mins after time but we served a full breakfast anyway. Some others came almost one hour after closure and we offered them toast, cereal coffee etc but not a full cooked English as the cook had finished. The bathroom window comment is not true and unworthy of further note beyond the fact that they have been there as is for nearly 200 years. Was I rude. Well I was definitely very firm with these people particularly after they made so much noise and disruption with kids jumping around that a light fitting immediately below their room fell out of the ground floor ceiling. Following a call from one of the party on the following Monday it was clearly suggested that I could avoid bad reviews by making a refund. There is another word for that and I declined to do so.
