We are saddened to read both of your reviews; we always try to make peoples stay with us as pleasant as we can. We have responded to your reviews below and can only apologies that we did not come up to your expectations.
You clearly do not have an understanding of fishing equipment; our fishing rods are only 6 months old. We are sponsored by Free Spirit fishing rods, although Free Spirit are a UK company they are very popular in Italy and a certainly not a cheap rod! Our sponsorship deal with them is that all our rods are replaced every two years; the last replacement of all our rods was in May 2017.
The reels we use are Shimano XTA baitrunner reels, again not a cheap reel and certainly Shimano is a brand that is known and regarded as one of the best worldwide.
As for our guides not knowing knots; in your Italian review you state (they were not able to recognize a bimini knot) The bimini is designed to protect lighter tippets, when used with monofilament line the bimini stretches and protects lighter tippets. We use dyneema braided line which as you should know does not stretch, so using a bimini twist on this material is a pointless exercise which only creates a bulky not!! The bimini twist is actually used for offshore fishing, I see you mention tuna which are an ocean fish which you fish offshore for. Perhaps you did not notice that Gillham’s is a freshwater lake, as you refer to ocean fishing tactics and species.
Our guides did raise with us their concern regarding your distinct lack of knowledge and disregard for fish care, unfortunately you wanted to use equipment that would damage our fish. Despite reading our rules and telling us you understood them, you still wanted to use your equipment that was unsuitable and would harm our fish. When we read your review in Italian it is obvious that you are a sea angler, your references to tuna fishing confirm this, we understand that your fishing at home is fishing for the table. Gillham’s is a catch and release fishery, our fish are in pristine condition because we use equipment and have rules to protect them. If we let people use the sort of tactics you wanted to, most of our fish would be killed or damaged.
As for your comments regarding the bait we provide, again your lack of knowledge regarding freshwater species shows. We provide bait that is designed for our fish’s dietary requirements, hence the growth rates our fish achieve and the pristine condition they are in.
We have many customers from around the world; we have a large amount of Italians who return year after year. Gillham’s welcome anglers from around the globe, unfortunately we can’t alter the fact that we are British as are most of our guides. It’s a shame but you do seem to have a hang up regarding the British, or perhaps your feelings extend to other countries. You really should not judge people just because of their country of birth, the world is a large place there are good and bad from all walks of life, for some reason you have a problem about other nationalities!
By your own admission you stated that your command of the English language was poor, when you ordered your food wrong one evening we put it right for you. After your meal we asked you if everything was OK, you answered that the meal was fine and that the mistake was down to your poor English. We did explain not to worry and we are used to dealing with people who don’t speak much English, we have customers who visit here who don’t speak any English, generally we have fun together and get their order sorted in the end. You seemed to have a problem that we didn’t speak Italian. What a shame you can’t accept like us that we don’t all speak the same language, but we do try; and feel it would be very naïve to expect everyone to speak our mother tongue.
We are sorry you felt uncomfortable; perhaps you should have done a bit more research, you would have then understood the resort was owned by British and could have avoided visiting an establishment operated by the British. Upon reading your Italian review you sum up your experience with an obvious dislike of British people, what a shame you feel this way as we have a large Italian client base who return here again and again. With just a bit of effort and understanding on your part we do feel you could have enjoyed your time with us, if you read through our reviews most people love the experience here, unfortunately we can’t please everyone.
