Thank you very much for your nice comments regarding your experience of our 24 hour Pohatu package.
It is indeed a really good way to discover the area. Scenic drive, bush walk, kayaking and finding some penguins late march was something quite nice indeed as most of them area t sea feeding and gaining all the weight they have lost of the 2 weeks of molt that they have to go through every year. Shireen and Francis are always very happy to share their conservation work. I find it quite inspiring.
Hoping that you have enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Thank you very much for those nice comments. It is quite a trip indeed and even more impressive on nice sea conditions. We cannot always take young children but when the weather comply it is a blast even fore clients like you that never kayaked before. We are lucky as Flea bay is a marine reserve so plenty of wildlife around. Sometimes we even have seals on the beach we take off from.
We try to offer a gentle trip along the bay where we can easily, without any disturbance, see a lot of wildlife.
Thank you very much once again.
Thank you very much for this very nice comments ^-^
It is true that the road can be a bit scary and that is why we offer tours from Akaroa by 4WD mini-vans.
Pohatu/Flea bay being so far away from civilization and being a marine reserve helped a lot with protecting the wildlife found within the bay. And offering sea-kayaking safari is a very good way of encountering the wildlife while respecting safety distance with them ensuring a future nice encounter.
Thank you kindly again for taking the time to share your experience.
Very glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit with me. Protecting the penguins is what this is about and I am very happy to have shared the family story.
The idea is really to interact the least and offer a safe environment for them and being able to show anyone that we can all make a difference. ^-^
Indeed you are right, you coming on the tour helps with the conservation: rehabilitation, nesting sites, predators control... all is being paid by donation and tours incomes So thank you very much for pointing it out and joining us.
Wishing you all the best in your future travel.
Hi thanks for your review,
I'm happy you had a great time with us.
We have many different tour options.
By reading this I believe you have done our 2 hour nature tour, this is the tour when you don't have to be out hiding from the penguins in camouflage clothing waiting for the little guys coming ashore, we just spend a bit of time seeing the conservation part of what we do, the rehabilitation and the penguins nesting boxes are monitored.
This is the best tour if you don't walk so well or have very young children or a short time limit if you are visiting Akaroa.
Our penguin rehab center is in my aunts garden where she has been looking after sick or injured penguins for the last 15 years, This is an important part of the conservation work we do here.
All this takes place in an isolated bay on the south eastern coast of banks peninsula, so it's a very scenic drive out there in a 4WD mini bus.
The Evening penguin tour is where we are out on the side of a hill, waiting in our hides with camouflage clothing and binoculars to view the early penguins returning from sea to feed their chicks. There is walking on a dirt track around a sheep farm involved so everyone that does this tour must have good walking shoes. This tour is when you see more behavior, as NZ little penguins are nocturnal when they come ashore.
Thank you so much for your kind review.
