Cash or Credit? A poll on which one passengers prefer Houston Chronicle December 10, 2009
Continental and others have moved to a system under which you'll no longer hear the flights attendants say "Correct change is greatly appreciated" when they announce the drink prices, and TripAdvisor.com wanted to find out what passengers thought of the trend.
The Web site polled 1,918 respondents on this question: Do you prefer paying for in-flight food and services by cash or credit card?
Credit card: 26%
No preference: 20%
Jami Counter, senior director of TripAdvisor's flights search, said he saw pros and cons with the move to cashless cabins.
On the plus side, he said, the system works well for passengers who like to use credit or debit cards, for flight attendants, who don't have to account for cash, and for airlines, which have an easier time with tracking and accounting.
On the minus side, he said, passengers who don't use credit or debit cards are out of luck, and for flight attendants, the equipment must be working properly, and training is needed to operate it, and for airlines, the system risks alienating passengers who prefer using cash.
I like the idea of customers having a choice, but I have to say, I won't miss hearing the announcement about correct change. Next, maybe the demonstration of how to use a seat belt can go by the wayside.
