「The actual birthplace of democracy, and a good view of the acropolis too」
A bit of a hike up the hill, but a great view of the acropolis (and the rest of Athens too if you continue to the top). The location of the stage for speakers and those listening is now more an open area with a couple of walls, but for me well with the visit.
If you are looking to learn very practical and interesting facts about the way Athens overcame the Persian army in 480BC this is the place!
Contrary to the Acropolis or the Delphi museums that have lots of anciant artifacts but seem to be made for historians or archeologists (specialists at least), this is very accessible for lay people.
Visited with friends on a Sunday afternoon and the choice rewarded us with an excellent night out in a hidden world of good wine and great plates ,which can elevate the overall experience to another level.
The place is open with many wine labels surrounding you and the people working there are friendly and always happy to explain the secrets...
