非常失望,位於景觀這麼好的地段,本可以有更好地維護條件和清潔水平,我認為對於我們得到的糟糕體驗來說價格過高了。

This is the report that we had to send to the agent of three guests. The report has been written by our managers on the ground and I decided not to edit it and to offer it to you in its "raw" version because in this world of fake news, then truth and there facts still matter: "I hope this email finds you well! I am writing you to follow up on the Segovia x 2 guests from Guatemala we have had staying with us at Saruni Samburu. Traditionally, these emails contain short, sweet, fantastic, feedback of the clients’ stay here as you will likely know from previous emails we have sent following your guests’ stays here in Samburu. However, this report is going to be very different as we found Sandra and Lillian extremely problematic during their time here and with endless complaints. I want to tell you first of the wonderful sightings and such they had on their stay here before I share with you the list of problems. Out on their drives they managed to spot the usual suspects of reticulated giraffe, grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, etc. as well as lions, cheetah with a kill - twice, and a lion hunt. They partook in game drives, picnics, time in the spa, sundowners, and an evening in the hide. We had roughly 18 other guests in house during their stay and all guests had fantastic feedback and a wonderful time…aside from these two. Please see below the complaints + problems we encountered with them: Since before even stepping foot out of the vehicle the complaints started. They were not shy about vocalizing (or even shouting at one point) their complaints over the meals while all the other guests would discuss the great joys of their stay. The below are the problems and complaints, rather in order of how they came up. -The roads are way too bumpy -The vehicles are horrible. Terribly uncomfortable. (Per the information we received, we allocated the front seat to Lillian due to her back problem, but she still chose to sit on one of the bences and not in the front seat. Most of our vehicles are undergoing transformations to having bucket seats so we switched their vehicle to one of these but they still didn’t seem impressed. We take quite a lot of pride in having Land Rovers as they have remarkably smooth and comfortable suspension, so we are not sure where the discomfort lied.) -There is no wifi (They actually sat on their phones through dinner using the wifi as well as while other guests used the wifi in the upper lounge. This was something that Sandra shouted at me, truly, across from one side of the table to where I was sitting at dinner.) -In our briefings we always ask guests if they have any dietary requirements. They had no dietaries but were taken aback when they were served fish…pointing at the other guests’ food who were eating fish and stating “We don’t want that!” We gave them steak instead. - The reserve is “Way too busy!! Very bad”. As you know it is high season but we do not believe Samburu is at all unreasonably busy. -The reserve is too far. (We are in a conservancy and the guests are driven through the conservancy to the reserve, often where very special sightings happen such as caracal, bat eared foxes, wild dogs etc. so we are not sure why the only focused on being officially in the reserve). -The roads are too windy. -Yesterday morning they were angry as they said we did not wake them up. They specifically said to one of our waiters when the plans were being made with all the guests for the following morning “Don’t wake us up we will set our alarms.”, as heard by management. They ignored when we tried to explain how they specifically asked us not to wake them up, that they would set their alarms. -The first evening they misplaced one of their flashlights and stated that someone stole it. The following morning they were insistent again on someone stole. Please note that no one had even been in their room since they arrived and since they started using their flashlights on this night so it was impossible for anyone to have stolen it. -While they were out for their drive on their second day they explained to their guide that they do not want to depart at 3pm the following day, they want to depart in the morning. We called Tropic Air as well as Head Office and found out there were no morning flights available. This very much angered the women. They simply couldn’t understand how there were no planes available to take them in the morning instead. -Their villa is too far. (They are in the most famous villa in this lodge, Villa 5. Which does require a walk to get to – but it is perhaps a 5 minute walk. -It’s too hot. (It’s actually winter here and we are averaging 21c as a low and 29c as a high.) -The beers were not cold enough. (We put the beers to get extra cold in the freezer for these ladies as long as we could. They literally could not have been colder without exploding.) -They told us a similar story with their wake up call this morning. They said the waiters were late by 20-30 minutes waking them up. I’m afraid this is a transparent lie as one of our waiters went to wake them up at precisely 5 minutes to 6, knocking on the door at 0601. Management is always up early before wake up calls to ensure everything is on time and surely enough I saw the exact minutes when this waiter went to the room prior to 0600. When I tried to explain how I actually saw the time of the wake up call they again ignored it. - They were 30 minutes late coming down for their drive this morning, heavily upsetting our other guests who were to go out with them. I just made the call to send the vehicle with the other guests that were and leave these ladies behind when they appeared around the corner. (As you can imagine, if guests are this late we have to make a cut off as to when the vehicle will leave without them – luckily they appeared just in time). When they got to the vehicle they said “We want another vehicle as we now want to be back by 1100”. (They had originally planned to go out for the normal morning game drive as they only needed to leave the lodge at 2pm for their flight at 3pm). We sent the vehicle with the 2 guests that had been waiting and opted to deal with Sandra and Lillian separately. At these point the ladies were in disbelief that we did not have another “chaffeur” to accommodate them. I asked why they decided they wanted to be back at 1100 as they only needed to leave the lodge at 2pm for their flight at 3. They threw their hands in the air and remarked “Well how are we supposed to shower if we only get back at 1200 and have to leave the lodge at 2pm?!”…They then said “so what are supposed to do now…just wait here?!” I explained how if they didn’t want to go on that game drive, I’m afraid there aren’t other guides as they are all busy. Sandra then looked at me and said “Well why don’t you take us on a game drive?!” I thought she was joking but she wasn’t. -As per a couple weeks our reservations confirmed with you that these clients would need to depart the room by 1000 in order to prepare it for incoming guests, but the guests say they had no knowledge of this and expected they could stay in the room until 2pm. Luckily we were able to keep the room open for them until their departure. -They felt “there was terrible communication from the agent”. (Please note we know this is not the case as we are regularly in contact with Asilia regarding clients). - They said their agent told them they could not drive to Lewa as “The roads are too bad” and they had to fly. They asked their guide here how the roads are and our guide explained the road is fine (of course we had no idea the agent told them this). They were livid that they had to fly instead of drive. -This morning they asked for eggs over easy. (Both myself and other manager Johan heard this). When the eggs went out they both looked at their plates, chatted, then said “no no no, what is this, we want them sunny side up!” and sent the food back to the kitchen for new sunny side up eggs. -It was as though the more, all the other guests in house, spoke how great of a time they were having, the more these two wanted to find reasons to complain. They were consistently trying to badmouth Saruni and the camp and there agent to all the other guests any chance they had. -Sandra said, while contorting her face and with her arms in the air “I am going to send a huge list of complaints to our agent!”. -Up until now they continue to complain stating “we should have gone out this morning and now we are just sitting here and none of you are doing anything about it! Nobody gave us a vehicle!”…and yet it was them that chose to not go on the game drive. Over lunch just now before they left, the other guests said to them “enjoy your next stop” and they said “Well, if it’s nothing like this place we will!” and the other guests looked at them and said “well we don’t know what you’re talking about, we’re having a great time!” -As the grand finale, they snapped “Why did our agent book this crap camp!” Perhaps it is worth mentioning, three different guests that were by products of their negative discussions came up to myself and Johan and said things like “What’s wrong with those women?” “Those two just complain about everything.” “I feel sorry for you, looks like you have your hands full with those guests.” Of course, we all listened, smiled, and apologized as best we could". So, we listen, smile and apologise to the other guests for having to share some of their precious time with the Segovia ladies.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Yes, there are similarities between Mewl and Samburu but also differences. I'm glad you liked the guiding skills of our team, as many people say other guiding is what really makes of breaks a safari. We look forward to have you back and also to show you the Saruni version of the Masai Mara.

Thank you for your wonderful review Rod. For technical reasons (the way the ceilings were originally built) we'd struggle to bring electricity to them and have ceiling fans, so maybe the solution is to change thew side fans (or to add one more to each room so that both sides of the bed are covered). Thank you for raising this point. We look forward to have you back in the future.
