I have been traveling regularly to Bequia for the last 20 years. This island is magical and the local food is amazing. I would suggest purchasing breakfast and lunch type foods (as well as snacks) and planning on eating dinners out (prices are very reasonable and the food is always fresh!). De Reef bar is fantastic for lunch and dinner (try the lobster sandwich and curry conch!). Also, Fernandos is a must!!!
In terms of provisioning, the only real spot to buy groceries would be in port Elizabeth. There is maybe one or two small shops in lower bay, but the hours are not regular. There is an organic veggie farmer right at the bottom of the big hill heading towards town, but again, the hours are not regular. Your best bet is to go to town and buy everything there. The butcher comes once maybe twice a week to port Elizabeth (ask around for the days). I usually buy my groceries from Knights trading (just off front st). Doris foods is good if there is something very specific you want (ie. Imported specialty), but be prepared to pay top dollar.
Fruits and veggies are readily available by vendors in the port (my advice would be to stay away from the Rasta fruit market -- they can be aggressive and the prices are not always very good). Go see blackie on the main road across from the almond trees.
Hope this helps!
Hi...my husband and I are planning a month long trip to bequia, feb 2017. I'm familiar with Lower Bay having stayed at Keegans several times. I'd like to know if you have a monthly charge, and if there is availability for our time frame.
