We spent two nights here early February 2015 and stayed in the room on the second floor that features massive bookshelves. We arrived on a rainy and cold Thursday evening after driving an hour and a half in the rain from Taipei. The staff gave us the key to our room the moment we arrived and showed us to our room. The room was quite big with two floors and an outdoor balcony on the upper floor. There was a big bath tub and shower area in the outdoor balcony but we didn't really use it because it was quite cold and rainy. The room also featured a massive bath-tub indoor which was kind of nice especially on a wintry evening.
The hotel serves three meals a day: breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. The meals were made in-house by their own chef and some of the ingredients were grown in the organic farm right outside the hotel - talk about freshness. The dining area features a big screen TV and also a pit with hot charcoal. We spent part of our day just lazing around the pit and getting our hands warm. I thought the pit added a homey touch to the property. If you love Chinese dark tea like I do, you would be blown-away by the pot of Pu'er tea that they warm throughout the day on a charcoal stove.
Overall, it was a great experience and the food were so good. The owners were so friendly and introduced themselves during dinner. When they found out from their staff that we were going to beef noodle place for lunch the following day, they even offered to give us a lift! It was very kind of them. Dr. Shi (the owner) gave us a tour of his organic farm after breakfast on our second day and it added a nice and personal touch to our stay.
My husband and I have stayed in quite a number of bed and breakfast / hotels in Taiwan and I must say Stonbo Lodge tops our list and we would go back again soon.
The only downer about this place is the internet connection and we were informed by the staff that when the weather was sketchy, the connection is so-so. I think this is okay though because who needs whatsapp, Facebook and Twitter when you are trying to get away from them all by staying on top of a peak in Toucheng!
We came here with a group of friends. The place is beautiful with breathtaking view of the city and the ocean. We stayed in 3 rooms. One is a Study Room which is a spacious duplex. The other 2 rooms all with sauna and large tub overlooking the ocean. The price includes 4 meals. Dinner is a 7-course and food was very good. The first course was scallop on star fruit with preserved vegetables and rolls. The second course was chicken soup. Then we have grilled lobster. The fourth course was lamb cutlet. Then came the Chinese leaves with dried scallop. The sixth course was fried rice. Dessert was black rice pudding. Drinks are free. You have to try the ginger tea. Staff and everyone there are so friendly and make you feel very comfortable. It's a paradise!
