A very beautiful spot to visit if you like to hike and enjoy beautiful views. SF Peaks stands out majestically from afar and you can't miss it from the valley below. Parking was easy and the local people were very friendly. A great adventure was had by all.

A treat to see snow on the highest peak in Arizona. It was even better to see the peaks in the distance from Wupatki National Monument

The peaks are visible upon your approach to Flagstaff. Reminded me of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Lovely for photos

You can have so much fun on the peaks! Hiking trails are fabulous and there are so many! From the very bottom to the top, it's a wonderland. Alpine views from Humphreys Summit. Aspen Corner is a wonder in the fall. Lockett Meadow is not to be missed in the fall. Good Camping spots as well. If you are hiking in the summer, start very early as afternoon monsoons roll in and you don't want to be out in the lightning. Stop in at the Lodge for some nosh, or take the chairlift in the summer. You will enjoy. This place is sacred to the Hopi and the Diné and a slew of other Native American tribes, so please treat it with respect. Flagstaff is about 7,000 feet in elevation and you'll be ascending from there about 4,000 feet, so be prepared for the altitude--plenty of hydration and take your time.

We only saw them from afar, traveling on the highways in the area. One of our tour guides gave us an interesting history of the peaks, named for St. Francis de Assisi by some Franciscan monks that settled at the peak. Mt. Humphrey is the tallest of the peaks and was snow-covered when we were there in late October.

As an alternate route south out of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon towards Flagstaff, we found this an easy route, with lots of beautiful scenery and an unclose peek at the peaks. So happy we made this choice over the interstate, with desert, pine forest and mountains along the way!

We did the north scenice drive, the view of these are amazing. We also went off the 89, and took the road to see the meadows and another canon, it was a rough road, but beautiful. We say turkeys and a lot of mule deer the higher we went up.

You can see the peaks from far away and as we were headed into Flagstaff the rains were coming down and shrouding the peaks. Then all of a sudden the rain stopped and the peaks were in full sunlight. I have been on top of them and every time I see them I know why the Native Americans call them sacred.

Fantastic scenery, lots of walking, as short or as long as you feel. The snowball ski lift is worthwhile, with fabulous views from the top.

Moved to Arizona earlier this summer. Very interested in taking a mini trip up to Flagstaff, in particular the San Francisco Peaks. I see so many incredibly beautiful photos of the fall colors, so looking to go soon. I'm not an experienced hiker, and that's an under statement. Are there places / over looks where you can stop and park to take photos? I'd loved to get some photos of the various trees, Aspens in particular that I've seen photographer near Inner Basin (I'm aware this is a hiking trail). Any feedback would be appreciated!
what is the best time to go for a hike ? and isn't it hot in august to go for a hike ?

Not sure if you are asking about the time of day or the time of year, so I'll answer both. Time of day would be early to mid morning, or later in the afternoon. Keep in mind that you are at 7,000 elevation, so unless you are used to the rarified air, you will find that it is more difficult to climb or hike than at lower altitudes. As for the time of year, that would be solely up to your likes and desires, one thing to keep in mind, when my husband and son went up the Peaks at the Snow Bowl on their gondola/ski lifts in July, they were caught in an ice and snow storm of monumental proportions.
Regardless of when you choose, it is a magical and mystical area with memories created with each step you take.
Enjoy!!!

I'd love to camp at Lockett Meadow. Since it's first come - first serve, when is the best time to go in order to have a chance at getting a campsite? When is this area (including trails) least crowded?
