After attending the current Bainbridge Island Museum's juried exhibition of NW Artists and reflecting on the numerous times I have visited Bellevue's BAM, I have come to the conclusion the Bellevue building simply does not work very well to display art works. Bellevue's building is all about the exterior architecture visuals with a disjointed interior that lacks practical spaces to show off art work. The whole ground floor is is a waste. You really must visit Bainbridge's museum to appreciate the differences. The wealthy patrons of Bellevue need to start thinking about how to remodel their art museum (or start over) to stay in the competition. The architecture of this building is a failure, regardless of the famous designer who did it. And then they need to up the quality of their exhibits. The last time I visited the sales shop I could not find anything interesting for a gift. Pay attention Bellevue!

*Not Infant/ Toddler friendly*
I felt really frustrated after my 1.5 year old toddler being told to be more quiet twice in the museum. This is the first time my toddler had been told to be more quiet out of our numerous visits to different museums. I definitely felt unwelcomed and this is clearly a mistake for me to bring a toddler here.
Also the staff were following us in the third floor the whole time. If you don't want to being watched, don't come. This is ridiculous.
Apparently several Yelpers with kids mentioned the same thing, I should have read reviews before I go!

I saw at the museum that Alden Mason is a much beloved artist in the Pacific Northwest. If you're like me, you may never have heard of him. The exhibition is one of the biggest of his decades of work. It's really different, a lot of fun.

Always fun to explore BAM during a free museum day. Nice to spend a day. Visit if you are looking to spend time indoors with kids.

You must experience the daily 1pm art docent tour! No additional cost and really expands the museum experience. The building is an exhibit in and of itself. Delightful way to spend an afternoon. Did I mention the free parking?

The building is a collection of odd rooms and spaces. The shows are often in just a couple rooms. My favorite was the display of Madeleine Albright's brooches she used for political statements.
The gift shop is a joy to explore, and can be accessed without paying admission to the museum.

Unusual and interesting art. Good variety that kept our interest. Close to great shopping and eating places.

At $15 a person, this is a museum you should probably be fairly certain you'll enjoy before you go. In general, I thought the museum was great; there was one room that was the sort of stereotypical lines on a white background modern art, but other than that, everything was overall stellar. The kiln glass exhibit was hands-down incredible.

Really enjoyed my time at BAM. The Kiln Glass exhibit was great -really liked the pieces/social statements of the work by Cassandra Straubing. Also enjoyed and appreciated "hidden in plain sight" by Maria Phillips. The Robert Williams exhibit is facinating - make sure to allow time to read the text writtem by Mr. Williams that accompanies each piece.

Unfortunately, people used this to review the annual Artsfair in July, which is free and mostly outside of BAM itself. Artsfair would totally get a 5 stars from me!
However, BAM it self is not worth the admission they charge! So we just go for Artsfair. I’ve been BAM exhibit years ago. It is small and sometimes not really arts. The one star review is for BAM itself! I find better arts in Artsfair and in local art gallery which are admission free! Suggest BAM to remove admission fee! I might be willing to check it out if it’s free!
