No reviews in over three years! That is a surprise.
I rarely write reviews myself for anywhere, but for the Fareham Wine Cellar I'm going to make an exception. I have been going to this little shop for years. It has confirmed what, if I'm honest, I already knew and that is that most supermarket wines are not very good.
The selection at the Fareham Wine Cellar is surprisingly big for such a small shop. The proprietor's knowledge of wines (and spirits) is encyclopaedic. I can genuinely say that I haven't ever bought a wine from here that I didn't like.
I try to vary my selection, but my favourites are Californian Pinot Noir and oaky Chardonnays and this is the only place where I have found what I want.
If there is a downside I would say that it is not cheap. But you get what you pay for and the wines here are top quality.

I cam back from a business trip and on the BA flight had some very good wine; an old vine granache from Australia. I tracked down a crate to the Fareham wine cellar.; very few places in the south of England had any. I went to this place and found a little gem. They carry some very good wines which are hard to find and the owner knows his business.

Staff very knowlegable and helpful when selecting a wine of your choice . They also cater for parties.

Returning on a walk from the Cob & Pen, a pub on the Cask Marque Ale Trail (followers of my reviews will be familiar with my many mentions of this) This wine sellers shop was closed when we were passing, but noticed in the window display, references to Pussers Rum – a tipple dear to this reviewers heart.
Bang on opening time next morning, shop keeper still stowing away a delivery, we were there, credit card trembling in hands. Pathetic creatures that we were, almost salivating and entranced by the variety and quantity of the goods on offer in such a small building.
There are some rare and unusual offerings - a bottle of wine depicting a fetching portrait of Marilyn Monroe caught my eye. Also the price range is something of an eye opener – there's an 8 Litre bottle of Italian vintage Madeira for an eye watering £5,950:00 and a more realistically priced bottle (for this reviewers pay-packet) of a Conviviale Montepulciano d'Abruzzo at a mere £6:75. Neither of which is available at my local Tesco (that's a joke)
This is an 'Offy' that any town would be proud to have within its domain. As it is, located in the historic conservation area of Fareham High Street, Hampshire, England, one of the most authentic Georgian High Streets in the country, in a structure redolent of history in its own right, the buildings in this street could be a backdrop for a historical movie.
Needless to say, there is international on-line delivery activity that you would need to see their very well designed website to fully appreciate. They feature (according to the website) over 1200 different wines and 'tastings' feature regularly on this.
Comprehensive stockists though they are, they don't do everything – a favourite of ours, a Spanish Brandy 103 was not stocked – but the sommelier/shop keeper, impressively, knew all about it. Unquestionably, our 'host' knew his way around the industry and was understanding of our requirements and offered useful guidance towards our purchases.
I'm really impressed with this wine merchant and have subscribed to their newsletter, more purchases will undoubtedly follow.
