After moving from London to the outskirts of Southend on Sea when my children were young, I can tell you from first hand experience what a good day out it is for all the family. Over the years the attractions and rides along the seafront which stretches from Leigh on Sea to Shoebury have all been improved and updated each year...There are lots of eating places to suit all pockets, pleasant walks along the sea-front and along the promenade at the top of the seafront, which runs from The Pier Head at Southend to The Cliffs Pavilion, which has excellent shows, a good restaurant and cafeteria and a very pleasant view over the estuary. Theres also the famous Pier, which is the longest in the world, and you can get a train to take you up to the end and back or can enjoy a leisurely stroll if your feeling fit. At the end of the Pier is a new cafe where you can sit and enjoy a very welcome cuppa and light lunch. The Lifeboat house is also at the end and is open to visitors.
