Gilpin Falls received a lot of attention on county websites. One expected there to be a trail or path to enable one to reach the falls easily. The historical marker clearly identified the location. On reaching the place, we saw a beautiful small pond formed by a dam and well cut grass on both sides of the pond. Unfortunately on walking down either side, we were met with dense grasses and no clear path on to the falls area. One could see and hear the upper part of the stream below the dam and some of the water rushing over rocks where the falls would begin. Maybe it would be better to go again in the winter when the grasses have died down and one could try to walk along the stream bank without risking snakes or slipping where there was no visible walkway.

The falls, creek, and covered bridge were all very nice. The "trail" only existed in some places and most of it was literally just walking through the woods and pricker bushes and climbing over boulders while keeping within hearing of the creek. We also parked at Cecil college instead of the parking lot near the covered bridge, probably would have been a better experience if we'd parked at the other end of the trail.

We hiked to the covered bridge. Trail is rocky. Because of recent rain the rocks were very slippery. No great place to sit and enjoy. Would not go back

We are lifelong residents of Cecil County and had somehow managed to never discover that there were these gorgeous rock formations/falls behind the covered bridge. We decided to do the quick hike with our 3 and 5 year old who are great hikers in Fair Hill normally and are good for at least 2 miles -- and it was a mistake. Lots of rocky terrain, and the boulders that you have to climb out on to actually see the falls were not remotely age appropriate. This would be an incredible hike for older children who can be trusted to hop from boulder to boulder, otherwise serious injury is possible. Also - be prepared for overgrown and poorly marked trails once you get off the main stone path that comes down from the college. If you want to see the falls quickly, there's a tiny trail that comes down from the covered bridge, but the hike itself starting from the college (follow the path that goes down past the tennis courts and in front of the baseball field maintenance shed to the trail marker) is really beautiful. We were able to save the day with my children and I waiting at the bridge while my husband ran back to the car and drove to pick us up and make it a one-way hike for the tired little legs. The rock pools are also very very deep so if your littles were wanting to wade into the water, this isn't really possible. We will definitely be back though, once our kids are older! So cool!

We had a good time hiking to the falls But couldn’t find the covered bridge. It was hard to find the entry point to the trail, which was behind the scoreboard for the baseball field, but we met a campus security guard who showed us the entry. Parking was free and easy and we even used the Bathroom in the college. We were able to follow the stacked stones to get to the waterfalls but when we were ready to come back we couldn’t find the trail because it was covered with tons of fall leaves And everything looked the same. To get back we had to navigate through thorns, poison ivy, boulders, and a lot of brush and it was very uncomfortable.

The best way to see this area is to go the Cecil College, park to the right at the back end of the theater parking lot and walk around the lower end of the theater building. As you come back up the back side, there is a nature trail that goes back through the woods to the North East Creek. Head north along the creek and you will have multiple sights to see. Most of this area is part of a National Natural Landmark (there is a marker on a large stone at the end of the trail) - noted for the type of rock outcroppings. As you continue to head north from the end of the maintained trail, you will see two old blanket mill foundations and mill races from the mid 19th century that I enjoy very much. On past the mill remnants you will see the bottom of Gilpins Falls and a no longer active, small power plant across the creek. A very worthwhile walk. I live just across the creek from the end of the trail.

We were told about this and found it easily behind the baseball fields and tennis courts at Cecil College. The path is really pretty well maintained and marked with stacked stones. We weren't expecting the rushing water or the falls, and so this was a nice surprise as was the whole place. There are plenty of rocky spots and sure footing and smart shoes are a must. The old mill is still standing and makes it even more scenic. You can traverse the paths to the falls, then backtrack a little bit and continue on new trails that eventually lead you back to the college. Total distance for this is about 1.5 miles. It's a little gem in Cecil County.

Sitting just below the covered bridge is a series of small falls, or cascades. I've seen better, but don't pass on the opportunity to see them if you stopped to see the bridge. On rainy days, the rocks can be very slippery, so be careful.

You can catch the beginning of the trail behind the Cecil Community College baseball fields. It take you down creekside where you can stop and enjoy the small waterfall/babbling brook.. If you continue to head North along the trail, it progressively gets more difficult as you have to traverse some Boulders. It would be prudent to stay on the trail which has been marked out by stone stacks unless you are savvy with Bouldering on slippery rocks. The trail comes out right to the south of the covered bridge along 272. The only downside is that unless you want to go back the way you came, you will need to walk south on the highway until you get back to Cecil College. There are known to be aggressive drivers that will pass on the shoulder to get around other cars so be wary of oncoming traffic. I completed this hike with three toddlers and they did great.

This place was great for my girlfriend and me. We walked down a muddy trail so we could climb and jump from rock to rock. If you are looking for something easy this is probably not worth it for you.
