Es ist schwer das Ganze pauschal zu bewerten, da es ganz viele verschieden private Touren gibt.
Die Touren starten auch nicht alle an der gleichen Stelle.
Es ist alles in allem eine schöne Tour, nur eben kein rafting. Man schippert langsam und gemütlich über den Fluss mit zwei drei Stromschnellen.
Der Gesamtpreis (~ 100$) den wir gezahlt haben deckte sich mit dem was wir online zuvor ermittelt haben, obwohl wir keine geführte Tour gebucht haben.
Das würden wir aber jedem empfehlen, da man nicht sicher weiß wo man am Ende raus kommt und eventuell noch teure Taxi kosten hat.
Wir würden die Tour nicht nochmal machen, da es alles in allem sehr teuer ist, für das wa man bekommt.
Auch unser Guide war eher nervig. Er versuchte während der Fahrt dauernd uns andere Touren zu verkaufen und uns ein schlechtes Gewissen zu machen. Es drehte sich wie so oft in Jamaika leider alles darum „wie bekomme ich am meisten Geld aus den Touristen“

A relaxing, scenic bamboo ride down the river. There are occasional slight rapids, but for the most part it’s slow going, and your raftsman is pushing you along with his pole off the bottom of the river.
The water during our visit was a gorgeous blue and very cool and refreshing to swim in. Our raft captain Neville (#98) was skilled and fun to chat with too.
Lunch: Apparently Belinda was busy that day so she gave Neville the meals to bring along from our origin point, instead of cooking it at the riverside lunch spot, which would have been great to watch. It was a hearty boxed lunch of fried chicken, rice and beans, potato salad and some green salad, along with soft drinks.
Cost: Our Airbnb host Leslie booked our river rafting tour for us. I’m not sure how much the official rate is but for my wife and I, we paid $80 for the raft, $35 for the taxi from Rafters Rest to Berrydale and $17 for lunch, so around $130 in total.

If you are in Portland Jamaica THIS IS A MUST DO!!
the price is great, please be nice to the driver of the rafts if you are nice to them and talk to them they will stop as many times as you want so you can have a swim. There is also a restaurant down the river you HAVE TO STOP AND EST THERE!! that food is so good!
Also, bring beers with you and some for your driver too. This is a 3 hrs trip and it is 100% worth it

my husband and I have always wanted to do this excursion but have never gotten the chance to do so. we booked this through our hotel and it was totally worth the experience! Captain Mark guided us on the water and was really friendly and knowledgeable about the river and its history. You will enjoy scenic views and a welcome lunch break at Belinda located on the river as well... bring water and an ice cold beer and prepare for a relaxing adventure on in the Rio Grande!

This is a very peaceful and scenic adventure.Take along or purchase at boarding port a cold beverage as the better ride to and return is 2+ hours long. Ask for the expert captain Louis who handled the raft with great skill (especially through the rapids and past numerous and large rocks in the river) but he also kept us informed on some of the history of the area. Dont forget to tip decently!

Just drove 2 hours $150 from Hotel to be told rafters on strike. It was the # 1 thing on our list and clearly has spoilt our impression of Jamaica. Never coming back. Cruise Ships should also avoid.

We found the overall experience to be outstanding. The senses were overwhelmed with the lush landscape, mountains, lazy river, and weather. What was the big surprise was the amazing water. Crystal clear! We stopped several times for a dip, and could not have enjoyed our day more!
Total time on the river was about 4 hours. This included a stop mid-way at Belinda's. Highly recommended! Lunch at Belinda's only made a winner of a day on the river even better. Her restaurant is severl levels below casual, by the way. Amazingly delicious!
Our guide was terrific. The traffic on the river was almost nonexistent. This was a highlight on many levels. The unspoiled Jamaica encounter. The gorgeous river. The Belinda stoop. One heck of a day!

A really relaxing boat ride down the Rio Grande. It cost us $90 for a 2 1/2 hour trip. It's so nice to float down the river on the bamboo rafts. Our guide Louis was really friendly and able to answer all of our questions. Turns out he builds his rafts himself! We had bought some Red Stripe at the launch point (don't forget to buy one for your guide!) and stopped for lunch at Belinda's during the trip (a must - her food is out of this world!). Add in some swimming in the river along the way and it was definitely a good day.

Pár kilometrů za Port Antoniem jsme se ocitly mimo civilizaci. Přešly jsme most přes Rio Grande a deštným pralesem stoupaly vzhůru. Cestou jsme poznávaly tropickou vegetaci, ochutnávaly plody pralesa, kochaly se pohledem na pohoří Blue Mountains a cestou zpět jsme se vracely po Rio Grande na bambusovém voru.

Os jangadeiros se adaptam ao cliente, fazendo passeios curtos, de 1h30, ou mais longos, que chegam a 4 horas e incluem até o almoço. Não são baratos, podem variar de $60 a $150, então é importante negociar.
Tente fazer o passeio mais longo, passando pelas McKenzie Falls e almoçando em vilarejos da região. Será uma experiência memorável!

Hi there! I am pregnant and will be 15.5 weeks along during my trip to Jamaica. My husband and I wanted to do this trip, but I am worried about the prevalence of mosquitos in a more lush, jungle-like area (re: Zika and Dengue). What are the mosquito conditions like in mid March? Would you have any concerns with an early term pregnant woman tour?

We were lucky and we dd it when it was cloudy, so it was okay. I could not imagine spending 4 hours under the sun though. If so, bring a hat or an umbrella, to avoid getting sunburtn. From what I remember, unless clods cover the sun, there is no other foliage that can protect you!

Can the rafting be booked right at the mouth of the river? I don't want to book through a tour operator, wondering if we can drive to where the rafting starts. Thanks!

Yes. You can go right to the operator and get right on the rafts. There were people on the road that kept directing us to the office. Beware. There were some people that told us not to join to the office,they wanted us to book a private raft but our taxi driver recommended us your keep going and go thru the rafting company.
Enjoy! We took two boats and loved every minute of it. Louis was our driver and he was absolutely lovely.

There is a hotel right at the river mouth, on a hill with a beautiful view on the river and to the sea. Good place to start the "rafting" there. Prices are about 60$ a tour, if you do not like to negotiate. Some guys try to sell you parking places, but parking is save and free there.
If you stay near Port Antonio, the rafting is a good half-day tour. We had a local guide who picked us up at our hotel (Goblin Hill) in port antonio, for 30$/Person.

There is wild life in Jamaica, so the first answer is kind of not correct.
Go to the south coast and check out BLACK RIVER, full of crocodiles, also elsewhere but mainly in the area of the south coast around the mentioned river and the town with the same name.
Never heard so far of crocodiles in Rio Grande though. Thanks god bc people are encouraged to swim next to the raft. Would be NOT so good if...
