I had a great ranger-led hike with Ranger Chris. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the native Americans, the geology, the plants and more. The hike was beautiful. I recommend going at 8 am. No one else at the beautiful waterfall.

Gate to entrance was closed in early afternoon due to “capacity” and so we parked for a few minutes. Watched at least 10 cars leave and gate was never re-opened. Don’t bother unless you plan to arrive when it opens. Better yet, go hike many of the free trails all over.

A very lovely, easy and enjoyable hike. We spent the first part with Ranger Angel on the 10 am tour. There is also a 1 pm guided tour. Angel was an outstanding guide. He was very knowledgeable, and presented the information with a great sense of humour. We highly recommend this hike and Ranger Angel!

Beautiful and special. This is a real gem in Palm Springs and perfect for a morning hike to watch the sunlight careen down the valley walls. Gorgeous!

One tip is to get here in the morning. Easy parking, less people, and you get lots of shade on the hike. Because it was December, they weren't real strict with the water bottles, but we always carry water on hikes anyway. Not an issue. The entrance fee is $15 per person.
The trail head was easily identified. Recommend you hike up on the right side as you face up (it is a loop trail), and descend on the left. Plenty of vistas for tremendous views. The boulders and rock walls were so colorful, many with interesting markings. Lots of water features. Streams, creeks, stone "bridges". So many spots for amazing photos.
The 60' waterfall was the highlight of the visit. It was flowing quite nicely when we visited. You cross the water with some rocks in the middle, perfect photograph spot. We thought the trail was extremely well maintained and clearly marked. Some spots were high stepping and slightly steep, but nothing was difficult. On trails like this, you're careful anyway.
We spent about a couple of hours here, you could easily linger a bit longer. Budget 3 hours for the entire visit.

Tahquitz Canyon was the only canyon I visited while staying in Palm Springs and it definitely did not disappoint. Tahquitz Canyon is part of the Aqua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians Reservation and features a two-mile round trip hike to a waterfall.
We arrived early in the day and found a parking spot with no problem. However, when we left two hours later, the parking availability had significantly dwindled. Because it is a state park, the entrance fee was $15 per person.
There is a ranger guided tour you can take but the park ranger said we most likely could do it ourselves--which is what we did. Before you are allowed on the trail you must first show that you are bringing 16 oz of water for the trip. If you don't have that much water on you, there is a souvenir shop on the park that sells bottled water.
With a park map, the trail was easy to follow. There were no steep inclines but, even with hiking shoes on, I thought there were some rocky spots. The temperature changed extremely fast on this hike. Since I was kind of cold anyway during my Palm Springs winter visit, I was bundled up enough to get by.
The waterfall was undoubtedly the highlight of the visit. Once you arrived you couldn't help but be floored by its beauty. It was flowing very well on the day of our visit.
Hard to believe this state park is so close to the city limits of Palm Springs. It is truly a gem worth visiting!

Nice walk through the canyon to the waterfalls. Would rate it higher but I think $15 per person is waaay too much to charge. Even the little tiny chapstick that the dentist gives out for free was $1.75.

Beautiful morning hike, with amazing opportunities for pictures. Went with young children (3 and 5 year olds), who were able to handle the trek well without being carried. Even during the last week of November, it was warm.
Take a 16 oz water bottle for each person or they’ll make you buy one there.

At 70 years old I was comfortable walking this trail. Some spots had to be taken slowly but in general it was fine. Suggest to go in the morning if you want some shade on the west side and also can get almost 100% shade on the return (east side of canyon). There are a few waterfalls with extremely clear water and the big one at the halfway mark is exceptional. Some people were wading and swimming in the very clear pool of water at the bottom……from what I saw the water was a bit cool. Seeing the sights and sounds of the canyon were great and would highly recommend this trail. I believe that it was $15 with free parking…….give this a try!

Is the entrance fee required if one is NOT hiking and just wants to go to the visitor center to learn? (My parents are physically unable to do the hike but are interested in the cultura aspect.)

The entrance fee is required to do the canyon hike, not to visit the center. However, I don't recall there being much to the visitor center (it's more gift shop, I think), although, speaking with the people there (I believe they are tribe members) could be the experience you're seeking. The Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza in Palm Springs with its museum is probably better for the cultural aspect, but I have not visited there, yet.

As I mentioned in my review, animals ARE NOT permitted. This prohibition is also posted on signage at the park entrance, and at the trail head.

Do you think it’s too hot to hike out here in June or July? Would it be so hot as to be unsafe? Asking for a friend ( ;

It gets really hot here. Depending on your personal level of hiking ability, the current temperature levels and other factors, yes it could be dangerous. We always head out early, also this trail is well traveled so you won’t find yourself alone for long. But yes, always make sure you have the 10 essentials and plenty of water, and also maybe an umbrella as there is a 1/2 mile stretch without shade when heading back to parking.
I'm 60. How difficult is the hike to the falls?
Also can a leashed dog come along?

I am also 60 and had no trouble, but I walk often. Not much elevation gain. I don't think you can take a dog. Check their website.
How difficult is the hike

Fairly moderate, not recommended if you have hip, knee, heart issues.
There's two crossovers bridges with water running over them.

I found this question strange because when I was at Tahquitz Canyon in early February, the teen-aged girl at the front desk was extremely nice.
Rather than just taking our money--my companion had proffered his credit card--she first helpfully pointed out that there was about a mile of rock scrambling involved and that some of the rocks were eighteen inches high.
I had never hiked with the person I was with before, and I would have had no trouble with the rock scrambling, but he had strong doubts he could handle it.
The cashier then very politely handed us a brochure for Indian Canyon, Tahquitz's sister canyon about three miles down the road, and suggested we go there.
She also drew us a map.
We used the restroom at Tahquitz Canyon before we left, and the cashier had no problem with that, which she could have, if she had been a 'terrible person'.
When we left and got to the parking lot, we realized that we had left the map and, would you believe, the 'terrible person' at the front desk, was coming down the path to give it to us.
I am not sure at all why TripAdvisor approved this racist sentence in the review--"When I paid my admission with 50.00 bill the senior ranger and rangers who just sit on their bottomswhile getting paid too much money are so rude and gross saying I have 20.00 and lying so much!!"
But, it is worthwhile for anyone answering your question to see it.
