MORNING CALM IN THE STREETS OF THE BAZAAR

If you want to shop til you drop, this is your place. While bazaars by definition are commerce, haggling and sales, the sheer number of shops--yet alone the range of items available for sale--was startlng. The attached photographs show the place in the wee hours of the morning, with few people about. Call it the calm before the daily storm. Sadly most visitors pay little heed to the wonderful architecture.

Hartstikke leuk om even te kijken (vooral als je wie is de mol hebt gekeken!)

Hartstikke leuk gedeelte vol met terrasjes/cafés, winkeltjes met souvenirs (de kleden, tapijten en van alles en nog wat). Als je souvenirs wilt kopen, kun je niet onderhandelen, dus je betaalt de prijs die ze zeggen, wat op zich nog steeds goed te betalen is. Leuk om er een drankje te drinken en vanuit daar naar het kasteel te gaan.

The main attraction

The main group of streets forms the heart of the town. All buildings have been recovered in a uniform style. Besides the Bazaar, there is the cattle and a couple of local architectural houses.

Bazaar sympathique

Bazar typique pour touristes mais sympathique. Les ruelles sont jolies et plusieurs commerçants parlent français. C’est le premier endroit en Albanie où nous avons pu trouver des cartes postales et les timbres pour les envoyer.

Dans la vieille ville cet ensemble de rues avec de nombreuses échoppes à touristes, avec un artisanat qui demande à savoir si c'est vraiment du local ou bien du Ch.... donne un peu de vie avec ses bars, restaurants et son animation de curieux s'y pressant. Mi mai 2022 toujours des travaux dans les ruelles attenantes et gênant fortement la circulation compliquée en ce lieu (rues en pente et pavée).

Tourist gifts galore

This is what the city is all about and you can waste hurs pottering between different shops. The carved stone shops have something a little diffrent and there are minimarkets that are reasonable for drinks !

Very disappointing. Don’t bother

This is not a Bazaar. It’s a little commercial/touristic area, restaurants, cafes, bars and souvenirs shops. Nothing special, doesn’t remotely resemble any middle eastern bazaars. I guess we were looking for something else, hence the disappointment. Don’t bother go there, might be nice for an NBC afternoon stroll.

Trochę inna Albania

Warto przejść się uliczkami wokół bazaru. Uporządkowana architektura to w Albanii rzadkość. Zamek jak zamek, warto spojrzeć z góry na miasto.
