This church is new as the original one burned down. Neither is it situated exactly where the original one was. It takes extra effort to go here as it is not on the main highway. It is quiet and in the middle of a residential area. It is also the closest real church to Ayala Center. The villages around Ayala Center have their own chapels but this is a real church.

The church has been a favorite site for movies because of its very old character. Uniquely, it is very accessible. It's a place where you can find solace in the middle of the busy Makati

When in the neighborhood, do stop and visit this lovely old church. Especially when there is no service, explore and enjoy.

Been to this church only once with family. I find the place really peaceful and private. Not too big and not too small.

This is NOT a Basilica in Rome filled with Bernini sculptures BUT this is a treasure! To think it began its history in 1601! The thick volcanic stone used to build it has gotten dark with centuries but this church is special in its antiquity and quiet grace.
The stories behind Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Philippines are worth reading. Take the time to visit and reflect. Amen.

Never dismiss the simple appearance of this house of God, which has stood on this site since 1601 - originally the Convent of Our Lady of Grace in the Hills. Originally it was on the top of a hill accessed by 200 steps - today you can park in its car park!! In 1603 the name was changed to Our Lady of Guadalupe, after the church of the same name in Spain.
Its history has demonstrates the church to be a victim of invaders, revolutionaries and nature. The first earthquake struck in 1658, which required renovation. It was spared by the eruption of Taal Volcano in 1745, but when British invaders turned it to a military headquarters in 1762 it lost its glory and its splendour. They defiled the church and sacked the tombs. Fortunately one of the soldiers was an Irish Catholic, who took the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the Augustinian Convent in Pasig and hid it - returning it after hostilities in 1764.
Various earthquake in 1880 seriously affected the monastery and church. The buttress of the church slackened and the monastery vault toppled over. It was rebuilt with a wooden ceiling in 1885. It was not always a house of peace and Filipino revolutionaries occupied the church from 1898-1899. The Americans came in chase and occupied the church - the edifices were burned and the church looted in 1899. This is recorded on the edifice plaque.
Worse was to come. The Japanese the church was turned into a garrison, and afterwards the archdiocese of Manila ordered the old monastery to be demolished and its stone taken to intramuros for construction of the Cathedral. In 1970 the church was reconstructed - this is the church you see today. Resplendent in the labour of those who sought its reconstruction. The church is open but closes for one hour at lunchtime. It's rich history, its tragic history is not apparent from the church's simplicity. Well worth a visit.
I write this because little is written on the history of this church.
It is easily reached from Manila and only 15 minutes by car from Taguig.

Обычная церковь, с небольшим количеством посетителей. Отличается от наших церквей как все церкви в этой стране. Если есть желание посмотреть на обустройство и архитектуру церквей в южных странах, то вам сюда, а так ничего особенного нет.
