This is a good spot to watch the Sunrise with a view of Mt Merapi and Borobudur Temple. Apparently it is not a busy as some other viewing areas (hills).
The climb whilst paved and stepped is not insignificant. A reasonable level of fitness is required. Alternatively take it slowly, and give yourself more time to make the ascend.
There were a few coffeeshop type places that did not look open early in the morning at sunrise. There are people offering to assist with taking pictures at the summit for a modest tip.

Disappointed after such a long hard climb to the top of the hill and waking up extra early. It was cloudy and we could hardly see the sun. However can see from the pictures posted that it can be beautiful when it is a clear day.

We went to Punthuk Setumbu as part of a trip to visit Borobudur and Prambanan. You arrive when it's still dark, and gradually, the sun rises, offering a spectacular view. If you're lucky, you can see the volcanoes in the area and the Borobudur temple.
It's set up for you to wait there and take photos, making the most of the views. Highly recommended.

We were taken to this mountain by moped, 2.5 km from the center of Borobudur. Then another 10 minute walk uphill. The platform is neat and spacious. Unfortunately no luck with the weather because it was too foggy. The Borobudur temple is also really far away; too far to see clearly. Undoubtedly, a sunrise is beautiful, because it is on the side of the temple. However, the sun sets on the other side of the mountain, so you cannot see the beautiful colors.

It was really nice and well-organized. It was a bit too cloudy for us, but the view was still really nice! definitely recommend it. The tour guide answered very quickly all the time and was really helpful. The walk up to the hill was also very easy and short, only 10 min!

Sebaiknya naik jauh sebelum mataharibterbit untuk dapat lokasi yg baik, karena di hari2 tertentu di atas cukup ramai.
Pemandangan sunrise indah bisa dilihat pada cuaca cerah dimana pantulan cahaya matahari di Candi Borobidur tampak luar biasa berkilauan..
Akses jalan setapak menuju puncak bukit dari penitipan kendaraan terakhir..

Dit moest je gezien hebben. Wij vonden het erg tegenvallen. Staan wachten op de zonsopkomst. Het was erg mistig. We kwamen om de Borobudur uit de mist te zien komen, maar was nauwelijks te onderscheiden.
