We’ve visited the place to observe the sun through the telescope and watch Back to the Moon film. It was great, I’ve never observed sun like this before. As there were almost no people (pandemic), the lady prepared the telescope for us and we could choose which film to watch (normally they’ve got schedules seances but since there was no one there, the lady prepared the tent-like room with the dome-roof, which serves as the cinema, for us).
We haven’t checked the VR, AR and simulation experiences but I guess this would also be interesting for both kids and adults (they even got the Star Wars AR experience with the real Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber).
The observatory is located in the Mushrif Park so you can have a nice walk there (but beware - there’s a lot of sand there!).
At the observatory there’s a lot of lazy cats :)
And yes - you can take a photo of sun through the telescope!

A great place to visit!! Especially if you want to introduce astronomy to your children
Positives of the place
1) Great intro to someone who has not been to a space centre
2) Viewing of the planets are not to be missed. We observed Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Very well done and organized
3) The tour of the place conducted by Farha was brilliant! She was very friendly and took us even to the top observatory.
4) Prof. Umair. We were fortunate to meet him, while he was studying asteroids. He really went out of the way to talk and explain about what he was doing. Very patient and extremely enthusiastic. Really meeting him was the highlight of the visit. Our rating of the place was a 3- meeting him took it up to a 4.
What needs to improve
1) We visited the planetarium. This is not what one would imagine it to be. Especially if you have been to one before. It’s a make shift one, in a inflated balloon. Very weak sound system, seating on the floor and not sound proof at all. The projector also need to be replaced as the images were of very low quality
2) Washrooms- Please don’t be surprised. But this was really a let down. The washrooms were out of order and we had to walk to the park washrooms, which were pathetic (we went during the national holidays).
If I go back again, I will check if the washrooms as functioning and see if Prof Umar is around. The place needs investment and be developed into something great.

Amazing, well worth visiting. Staff were fantastic and sharing lots of interesting information. I visited with my two daughters aged 9 and 6 who also thought it was fantastic. Well worth a visit.

One of the things I've wished in my life is to see stars and planets through a telescope. I was hoping to visit one of the countries that owns the telescope station. I was amazed to know that one of them was being built in Dubai in Mushrif Park. I was so happy, so I made a visit with my kids. They loved this place so much. The building is like UFO. It consists of a space cinema, a space library, a space workshop, a gift shop and a telescope shop, as well as a café. The building also includes models of planets and spacecraft, and there are real meteorites. And the most beautiful of all, a large moving dome that contains a large and very sophisticated telescope to see the stars in high definition.
I want to thank all staff who work there for their warm welome,and support and for the tour they gave , Mr Uzair and Ms Habiba. And a special thanks to Mr Hasan the CEO for his hospitality and for allowing me and my kids to enter the large telescope dome.
More over , They have membership program as well which allows you to get discounts and attend many great space events.
I suggest residents and visitors to visit this magnificent place

Me and my partner went out to the desert with 2 great guys. We learned alot about astronomy and got to see stars and planets through the teleskop. We also enyjoed amazing food and company. They showed and helped us to take pictures with our phones of the stars. The storytelling is amazing and even if you are not interested in astronomy you will love it. We spent about 2-3 hours under the stars watching space moving around us. Highly recomend!!

Such a great place to visit if you're so interested in astronomy. Amazing discoveries on what a meteor rock looks like. Very educational. So many things to learn. The giant telescopes were so amazing. Try to be there during one of their events. The experience is unforgettable.
