This was my second trip to Machu Picchu via Peru Rail and I highly recommend this rail service. It is a pleasant trip with great views of the Peruvian landscape and Andes Mountains. The service has snacks, soft drinks and adult beverages available and their attendants are friendly, helpful and multi-lingual. One such was Francisco B. who greeted us with a big, wide smile. Then provided a brief history of Machu Picchu and what to expect on this adventurous day. By chance we bumped into him again in Aguas Caliente, where he greeted us by name and continued his warm hospitality directing us to the proper departure gate. Francisco was a highlight of our Peru Rail experience and you should definitely include this service in your Machu Picchu excursion.

Highly recommend taking the Peru Rail train from Machu Picchu down to Cusco. It’s a much more pleasant experience than going by bus (what we did in the way up). You cut your travel time by more than half, snacks are included, and they even have a live performance during your ride. The attendants were also very friendly and kind. Especially Ismail. He was so attentive and such a pleasure to watch perform. You can tell he really loves his job. My husband and I felt so happy we decided to take the train. While it may seem expensive it is truly worth the price. You cannot beat the hospitality, entertainment, and comfort that Peru Rail offers.

Honestly there is only two options train wise to grt to machuu pichu, both of them are garbage. Old worn out trains, leaking diesel and oil onto the ground and spewing out diesel fumes into the carriages.
What they need to do is stop the greed and Spend some of the money made from tourists on improving the service. On one visitdrome train return trip they are making a minimum of around $50,000USD. Where is that money going? The line is so old and poorly maintained the bus ride is smoother than the train. If you pay more and go on the voayager or whatever the next one up is, its only marginally better. Then they have a stupid dance and fashion show that goes on for an hour of garbage you can buy in the market for 50x less than on the train.
Next time we go to machuu we will hire a private bus yo go to hydroelectrica and hop a train from there to machu and save money rather than wasting money on this garbage service.
They even lie about the air cleaning, theres no air filterb and the airconditioner is hardly even turned on untill the idiots start dancing around, then its cool, then they turn it off again. cheap bastards.
you ruined a good experience with your crap train and poor business practices. pathetic.

Eduardo was the perfect tour guide. He was very personable and friendly and made us feel comfortable each step of the way.
He was very knowledgeable about the history of each area we we traveled, giving us both the Quechua and Spanish names of historical people and places along with some very interesting historical information to help our imaginations wonder.
He spoke with great English and took us on some very epic local roads lining up the transportation/drivers on time.
Highly recommend traveling with Conde Travel!

This was a comfortable experience to get to Machu Picchu from Cusco. The glass ceilings were a nice feature so we could see the incredible sites around us. Also, there's a recorded voice (in Spanish then in English) at different key points along the ride to give you the history of the area. A great experience for people of all ages!!
Please note that due to Covid, there is no eating and drinking on the train. The ride is a few hours so plan accordingly.

I just booked this train in sept and when they confirmed they have my soon to be husband and I not sitting together -this is our honeymoon so that will not work. Do you recall if they correct this at time of departure? Thanks for any advice.

It is very hit or miss... We sat in a train car that was more than half empty and the workers told everyone to sit on the right side for best pictures and videos of the scenery. FYI sit on the side farthest away from the station when you get on for best views of scenery!!
If this is the case and it is a packed train car it would generally just mean asking other guests on the train. Every time I do it on airplanes nobody has minded. Especially if you tell them it's your honeymoon! We got engaged at Machu Picchu and the locals loved hearing about it! If worst comes to worst just let the train workers know you need to sit beside your husband for medical reasons and they will make it happen for you :p :)
But when we went the train wasn't totally full we boarded at Ollantaytambo though not right from Cusco.

Hi,
1. Can anyone tell me the name of the company that manages Vistadome train? There are multiple companies, so I am not sure which online site to use. I plan on travel r/t between Ollanta and Aguas.
2. I heard there are restrictions on the sizes of luggage on the Vistadome. Is a regular carry-on that airlines allow permissible?
3. I will be traveling in May/June. Should I purchase tickets in advance?
Thanks!

Hi Ted, we're thinking about the same route. Sacred Valley to MP, stay the night and a return train to Cusco. What did you do with your luggage? Did you get your train tickets ahead of time? Where did you stay in the sacred valley? We planned on acclimating there instead of Cusco.
Thanks,
Tom
