This part of the coastal trail is on the eastern side of Hong Kong island. The route is a coastal path that connects two bays (Lan Nai Wan to To Tei Wan) and five villages – Lan Nai Wan Tsuen, Tung Ah Tsuen, Tung Ah Pui Tsuen, Ngan Hang Tsuen, and To Tei Wan Tsuen. It’s scenic with a well kept temple at the beginning of the route and the villages are interesting - not all are inhabited and there could only be 2 people staying in the village. The villagers are friendly. There are barking dogs (so be warned). The beaches are very pretty. It’s not a flat walk as my phone recorded 50 flights of stairs at the end of the hike. The hike got a bit wild with grass and branches at shoulder height but it was adventurous. At the last village, there are many steps to take before you reach the bus stop at street level. Pretty grueling compared to the flat coastal walk. There are handrails throughout the stairs.
The trail is a bit confusing but good thing the villagers were helpful to direct us.

This is a sponsored trail that is made up of 8 sections that when patched together circumnavigate Hong Kong Island. The eight sections collectively are just under 60 km in total distance and are mostly seaside, with some sections going through short village and industrial stretches. Also included is the famous Dragon's Back Trail which ascends to a ridge line above the sea in the southeastern corner of HK Island.
You can find information about the the entire trail as well as the 8 respective sections on the CoastalTrail Hong Kong website. The various sections are of different lengths and difficulty. Some are established trails while others are loosely fit together walks that are best attempted with some planning and use of Google Maps on the day.
For those interested in promenade sections, the Eastern & Western Harbour Walk sections on the north side of Hong Kong Island are convenient, close to high usage public transportation and close to other sightseeing you might have interest. For beaches, the Southern Beach Walk between Ocean Park and Stanley is really nice. For mountainous stretch, The famous Dragon's Back trail is the section you might want to to try.
Like with all walking/hiking days around Hong Kong. It is important to know the weather on the day, have sufficient footwear, hat, sunscreen, water and snacks depending on which section you are trying. Study the section(s) sufficiently beforehand as well so you know where to start and stop. This information is provided on the website mentioned above. If you are unsure about anything, ask on the TripAdvisor Hong Kong forum where local experts familiar with the trail can offer advice, suggestions and useful tips.
