Gresson Street in Wan Chai is a neat spot to visit during the build up to the Chinese New Year holiday (late Jan - mid Feb) each year. The stalls nearest to Queen's Road East sell orchids and various flowers throughout the year but load up with beautiful Chinese New Year seasonal plants, small potted trees and flower arrangements that are beautiful to see.

You'll find lucky bamboo, colourful willows, kumquat trees, orchids, cherry blossom stems and many more. This year in particular the potted arrangements have been particularly impressive, the blooms are coming out at just the right time for the holiday. Stall keepers are happy for you to take as many pictures as you like.

Note: Compared to places like Victoria Park (Causeway Bay) and the Flower Market (Mongkok), the crowds here are nothing like the crushing masses you will encounter in our proper CNY event and market locations. This is a reason we like to pass by Gresson Street during the holiday period each year.

This is a small flower market in Wan Chai with strikingly beautiful displays of orchids. It might be small but it packs a punch with colour. Alongside orchids, there is an array of other plant, including bonsai, bamboo, potted plants, succulents and a huge range of cut flowers.
It’s not as large as the Mong Kok Flower market but if you are staying in or around Central and have limited time, it’s easier to visit here. Gresson St is easy to find. It’s a short, pedestrian-only street running off the main road, Queen’s Road East. On its own, it’s not a ‘must-see’ but it is one of the interesting sights while exploring Wan Chai. If you walk 3 - 5 minutes further, you’ll also find a series of other market streets centred around Cross and Tai Yuen Streets and sell toys, cheap clothes, beads and trinkets, fresh food and live chicken and fish.

One of the interesting places included on the self-guided Wanchai Heritage Trail is stop (E) - the Gresson Street flower market. This market scene started in the 1950s and can be visited every day of the year to see attractive flowers, plants and arrangements which can be bought from the stalls that line this short street in Wanchai. It is a good photographic stop to make along the trail.

Gresson Street is located between Queen's Road East (to the south) and Johnston Road (north). While you will see the market taking place on most days, a particularly good time to visit here is just before the Chinese New Year period when you find seasonal favourites such as lucky bamboo, kumquat trees, orchids, peach blossom stems and other flower and plants associated with the annual CNY holiday period.
