I enjoyed my visit to the Cotton Tree Chocolate factory. I am a chocolate lover and couldn't wait to learn more about the process. I was anticipating a "tour" that would give me a true sense of how chocolate comes to being. Though I gained a knowledge of the process, something was lacking.
The person on staff was delightful. She was informative. Though for me, the "tour" was could have been improved. For most of the tour, the kind worker pointed to photos mounted on a wall as she described the process. There was only one part of the tour that we saw the actual nibs as they spun into chocolate. Personally, I could look at photos from my home online, and read about the process. My sense is the tour could have been more meaningful...rather than pointing to photos, perhaps seeing models of the various components (even the cacao plant itself).
It was a nice treat to sample various varieties of chocolates made at the Cotton Tree. I bought a small bar. I would have purchased more, but in the heat of Belize, I'd be afraid that by the time I got home that evening, my purchases would have melted.
I'm glad I went for this visit, and recommend you do the same.

We drove past this little chocolate factory without time to stop, so I was happy to find their chocolate in the Belize City Airport. Cocoa Nib Crunch!
Possibly the best chocolate I’ve ever had. Reminded me of my favorite ice cream from Brighams in Cambridge, but more complex. Just a little square at a time was completely satisfying, and that’s good since it was $9 American (probably jacked way up for airport traffic).
Can’t wait to get back to Belize for Permit and Cotton Tree Chocolate!

very small local run chocolate shop the care in making their chocolate is very high.. you can see the machines through the glass wall while the large tempering machines, these are machines that run for hours crushing the liquid chocolate into extremely smooth tasty morsels they have dark milk and white chocolate as well as flavours like orange and mint .. if you are in Punta Gorda this is a must see place samples are so tasty we can not leave without buying at least 3 or 4 large bars to bring home .. if they make it that far .. check them out when you get to Punta Gorda you wont be dissappointed .. ask us about the store the people everything .. enjoy your trip and this tasty little place

The cocoa is grown by Mayan farmers in the Mayan Mountains in the Toledo district of Belize. The chocolate is organic and glutin free. Fair trade. Cost a little more but is well worth the taste. I would take it home to Canada if I could prevent melting. After you taste the free samples, you can't resist buying a bar or two.

Cotton Tree buys locally grown cacao and turns it into the chocolate we eat, They make several different varieties and flavors and are happy to offer samples so you can choose. The also offer non-edible souvenirs with a cacao theme, but they are best known for their chocolate, You can get a short tour to see how the cocoa nibs get turned into some of the highest quality chocolate in the world. It's more expensive maybe, but you will never again be able to eat a plain Hershey Bar. Some things are worth the money - Cotton Tree is

I visited this chocolate factory and I think it will be more interesting for me. Quick tour (like 5mins) when I was told how is chocolate made. Good they use high quality beans. I expected better experience.

We stopped here after having lunch next door at Jocilyns. So glad we did! Christine’s tour, explanation and showcasing of the cacao bean from pods to product was phenomenal! It’s a very small shop and the four of us were about all it could handle. Try the cacao water.. so refreshing!

Small cholocate factory. Sample dark & milk cholocate. See cholocate being processed. Gift shop with Coco butter cream, & souvenirs. Friendly staff. Located at the waterfront.

Very nice people- and great chocolate. The tour was short as the facility is small, but they have passion for what they do and how they do it.
