We visited this wonderful oasis of calm today. Stunning views and shady areas to sit. Feeding the birds was magical and one of my favourite days in Jamaica.

The wooded area with an ocean view was gorgeous & full of birds. I used my Merlin ap to identify most. The guide initially did a little more of them, put a bottle of sugar water in my hand and encouraged me to sit down and be patient, but I wasn’t disappointed! Variety of hummingbirds and finches immediately came to feed, right from my hand. After about 45 minutes, an older gentleman offered to walk my husband, and I down a path to look for a newborn Jamaican brown owl. We saw goats along the way, one that had just given birth. And there were the owls! When we offered him a tip, he asked for more. Oh well! I have 15 more birds on my life list now, and it was worth every penny!

Decidedly overpriced—and dishonest about it. Before our visit in February 2025, their Facebook page claimed the entrance fee was US$20 pp. When we got there, apparently it had gone up twice since then to US$30 pp. And that only covers the hummingbird feeding activity, it doesn't include any guided walks around the grounds to look at some of the other wildlife found there. While I don't dispute hand feeding hummingbirds is a magical experience, it could be used as an opportunity to provide some background information and education about the birds you are seeing, especially for younger visitors. For much of the time we were feeding hummingbirds, the owner/manager Fritz was asleep in his chair.

So sorry you were using outdated price information, our small operation has been affected by increased costs for everything, to stay open, we simply have to charge more. We note your comments and that they are in stark contrast with the majority who enjoy the experience.

Rocklands bird sanctuary was a magical experience and will not disappoint. Damion was a wonderful host and was very knowledgeable about the birds. We had some great conversations! Feeding the hummingbirds was easy and relaxed. We checked off some birds from our life lists and really enjoyed the natural surroundings and laid back vibe. Thank you!

Excellent experience. The sanctuary is about 1/2 ride from the cruise port.
We took a 1-hour bird walk with Fritz which cost $25pp. He took us on a heavily wooded path, spotted birds with a laser pointer for us and also told us what birds we were hearing. We saw about 15 different species.
When we got back he showed us how to feed the hummingbirds and finches. We were easily successful. It was so fun to see the birds so close!
If you don't do a bird walk the cost is $30pp.
The bird sanctuary put us in contact with a driver who stayed with us for the entire day for $150 for our party of 4. We were at the sanctuary for between 2-3 hours so there was plenty of time to do a second activity. He took us to the sanctuary and then per our request he took us to Doctor's Beach for a couple hours before he brought us back to the ship. His name was Monty. He was a very careful driver and had a very comfortable new air-conditioned Honda van.
We paid cash for both the tour and the transportation in US$.
I would book this excursion again without any reservations.

It was a wonderful experience to feed the hummingbirds by hand. It was the main reason that I went to Montego Bay and I wasn't disappointed. It's definitely worth getting there early before the birds have started to disappear and have had enough to drink!

Such an amazing experience, not a huge " tourist" spot, no busses. Been to Jamaica over 30 times, this is tops on the memory list! Well worth the visit to see the beautiful countryside.

This was such an amazing experience! Our driver took us to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary and it was so fantastic we took the rest of our group back the next day. To sit with the little bottles of nectar and have these beautiful hummingbirds buzz all around you then light on your finger to feed is one of those life experiences that are hard to describe! Also to walk around the grounds and see all the other birds feeding and bathing was a true delight. We enjoyed both visits and hated to leave. If you love birds and nature I would say this would be one of the highlights of your trip if you make the drive! It was for us!

The Rocklands Bird Sanctuary was an amazing experience. 1, I really like the vibe here . It is located in the middle of mountain where you can overlook the Montego Bay. The place is surrounded by the jungle and all the birds can fly freely, not like being in the zoo or contained by huge net. 2, it is quite an experience to see the hummingbirds flying and feeding just right in front of your face. We’ve seen 3 different species. We stayed there for over 2 hours and learned a lot about hummingbirds.

According to google maps, it is 35 minutes away, but that last part of the road will take you a little longer, as there are plenty of potholes. If you are only looking to play with the hummingbirds and have grassquits eating seeds off your lap, they are there all day long. If you want to see other birds, try to go earlier in the day, around 9 or 10. The area itself has a lot of trees, so it doesn't feel very hot and is quite relaxing. If you are very interested in birding, the caretaker there can take you down one of the paths and point out a bunch of other birds for you. There are a lot of endemic birds there that occur no where else in the world. You can work out a price with him. It is not usually part of the normal cost, but he knows his birds. Many of these birds will rest in the middle of the day when it is hotter, so earlier is better to see more of them.

Sorry we dont' have a book, and you don't have to book ahead, just show up between 10 Am and sunset to see and feed the birds. Admission $20 Per adult.

Yes April is a good time to do the tour, the hummingbirds are in beautiful plumage then. the sanctuary is open all year. Entry is USD$20 per adult. SEE FB and Tripadvisor for details.

the port is about a 30-40minute drive from the sanctuary. we are open daily from 10AM . entry is USD20. per adult. you should be able to get a taxi or tour bus from the port.
