A wonderful experience. Seeing the tapestry is a well managed experience with the audio guide giving you information about each panel and making sure everyone moves along Try and go early before the crowds. There wax a Pixi exhibition on the second floor which was beautifully curated
Fabulous museum with English film and great translated boards for all exhibits.

The tapestry is amazing considering its 1000 years old.
Man behind entry desk got a bit shirty when someone started a second queue!!
Could be a bit more about how it was made and where it's been kept over the past millennium.
Thankfully queue not to long upon our arrival, however, had grown considerably by the time we left. Canadian man xppmplaing when queue was 20 people long!!

For us, the museum with probably the most famous carpet in the world was a highlight of our journey through Normandy. The carpet dates from the late 11th century. It is about 70 m long and tells the story of William the Conqueror in 58 scenes. This Norman duke secured the English royal crown after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Visitors will receive an audio guide that will guide them through the individual scenes in around 30 minutes without interruption. Unfortunately, this means you have little time to study the numerous interesting details. On the other hand, the uninterrupted recording also ensures that the flow of visitors moves continuously and no traffic jams occur. The tour takes around 30 minutes, which was even shorter than the waiting time in front of the entrance. Photography is not allowed.

Fascinating, with excellent informative commentary. It was quite busy but the queue has to keep shuffling along to keep up with the recording. One of the holiday's highlights.

A truly immersive experience that is offered by the Bayeux museum, finding ourselves in front of almost 60 meters of tapestry, excellently preserved that tells the story of William the Conqueror, you can only be fascinated and surprised.
For history lovers it is an essential stop

This has been on our 'must do' list for decades. We seen reproductions (and also the replica in Reading Museum, UK) but nothing is quite like seeing the original up close. Didn't fail to impress with both the amazing quality of the work and the extraordinary graphic storytelling. It can get a bit claustrophobic and crowded in the tapestry gallery. We decided not to get an audio guide and just appreciate the tapestry. The historical exhibition upstairs is also fascinating.

Convenient to admire on the basis of the audio guide in Dutch. Very impressive and interesting.
We visited the carpet early so there were not many other tourists.

We were here as part of a visit to Bayeux. The tapestry is worth seeing certainly and at under a tenner it's great value withe the handset included.
Only issue I have is the handset starts as you enter the exhibition and IF folk in front of you are slow then it soon gets out of synch!

Bit of a swizz this - if you have any idea of wanting to study the tapestry from an historical perspective or the production of the the tapestry you will be dissappointed. Its very busy and the tour is 12 euro each plus 2 euro's if yiu want to go to the museum. Most people will want to see the Tapestry - thats really why you are there. The audio guide is too fast basically pushing you through and its easy to get behind especially if its busy. You cant stop the audio guide and you will probably be pushed along along from behind or held up in front. The Tapestry tour takes 20 mins if you are lucky. Make no mistake though the Tapestry depiction is spectacular just a pity you cant study it in more detail. Screaming kids didnt help the situation. Try for visit when the kids are not on holiday !

I have seen the prices on the website listed as ‘adult €12, reduced price €7.50, students / school €5’. Can anyone tell me which category English children of 12 and 14 years old will fall into, please? Thanks

Is there a bag-check at the museum? I will be travelling in France with a fairly large backpack most of the time. Are backpacks allowed? If not, is there somewhere safe like the train station to store it while I visit the museum?
發表日期:2022年8月26日
I dont recall about storage; however, a couple members in our party had bags. This museum is really a walk-around room with the tapestry in the center. Our folks wore their backpacks while walking with no issue. They were smaller packs which yours may be much larger.

We will be visiting in early September. Are there typically long lines for entry? If so, how long a wait should we expect? Thanks!
發表日期:2020年2月4日
When we visited the line was fairly short—maybe 10 people. But if there’s a tour group there it could get backed up. The museum and the tapestry exhibit are not very large.

How long is the line in time to buy tickets in the height of season like May
發表日期:2019年9月11日
To buy tix probably quick. However queueing for the headset and then viewing may take an hour to an hour and a half or more if busy. The audio guide talks through the various scenes on the tapestry and really is needed to understand it. Therefore the pace is slow as people listen to commentary at each piece of the tapestry. If there are lots of people you will be in a long shuffling queue waiting to get into it and then slowly going round. Worth it if you are into history though.

I am a student of medieval history, particularly history of costume; I ask if it is possible to take photographs of the tapestry, without flash of course, for study purpose. Thankyou for any answer.
