A friend recommended and actually booked a table for us to make sure we went. They were right to do so! The service was exceptional and the cocktails were delicious. Thank you Clara and Met for making our evening so enjoyable!

I have previously written a positive review for this place as I’ve visited numerous times and have always thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea experience. The dry ice visual completed at the table is fantastic and something special.

However......on this occasion the experience did not live up to previous experiences.

When arriving me and the four others in our party were seated but were left for 25 minutes without a menu or being asked for a drink!!!

Once we were given the menu it was a further 20 minutes before being asked for a drink even though other tables had arrived after ours and were given a complimentary glass of water with their menu.

Once ordered we continued to wait.......another 20 minutes before the food arrived and even though we had ordered champagne to accompany the food this didn’t arrive for another 10 minutes!!!!

After watching other tables being served tentatively we were shocked and asked the general manager why we seemed to be experiencing poor service. She explained that the restaurant manager seemed to be experiencing issues serving our table and that she had observed him ignoring us and had confronted him to which he ignored her.

A great restaurant manager you have employed there, especially one that ignores the comments of the general manager!!!

We did not receive an apology or justification from the restaurant manager why he was trying to avoid serving us but the general manager did apologise on his behalf and did try to rectify the service issue with a discount but if I’m honest the damage had already been done and the celebration we were out for was ruined.

When you have high expectations of a place and for a period of time you have ‘boosted’ about how good the place is to three of your party that have never been before it really does make you feel deflated.

Fabulous time. The afternoon tea was lovely, we opted for the gin cocktail addition and was worth the price of £35 per head. Who knew afternoon tea could be so dramatic and theatrical. Loved every second. Have recommended for friends.

This was definitely the best afternoon tea we've ever had, and believe me I've had a few. The service was excellent with everyone giving their best and so friendly, yet professional. From start to finish it was a lovely experience for my 70th birthday. The theatrical of the 'amuse bouche' to the lovely cakes and sandwiches. The scones were huge with a generous amount of cream. There were two each and we couldn't manage the second so they were beautifully boxed for us to take home. The celebration platter was lovely too and a perfect finish to a lovely day. We will definitely be back.

Myself and two friends visited here on a Saturday in January for a catch up over afternoon tea. My one friend had been several times before, we got seated downstairs and this was her first time ever sitting there. We were on a corner table behind the bar, which meant we kind of got forgotten about... we only had one round of drinks and didn’t get asked if we wanted any more. Also we had finished our food for a long time and was waiting for our bill until we eventually had to get up and do it at the till. We all got overcharged £3 which was sorted at the time and seemed an honest mistake. I couldn’t fault the food there was a fantastic selection and loved the dry ice effect, however the service wasn’t up to scratch for what I expected for a place like this. I would maybe try here again to give another shot but would ask to ensure I was seated upstairs as it looked nicer than the dark/over powering glittery cellar where we got seated.

We were staying in Birmingham as a Christmas treat for my wife and taking in a concert at The Arena which is a short taxi-ride away.
The evening started with Cocktails in the bar. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff guided us through the extensive menu. We also enjoyed the food offer; simple but tasty. After the concert we returned to sample the cocktails we'd missed earlier!
We stayed overnight. The rooms were very comfortable and to an excellent standard of décor and finishes. Breakfast was excellent too.
Well worth as return visit.

Had afternoon tea here today, a little pricey but well worth it. The place was lovely, staff we’re extremely helpful. The whole drama of the event was magnificent. The palate cleanser in dry ice was very dramatic. Staff appeared knowledgeable and were willing to explain. Would recommend!!

We enjoyed a superb Afternoon Tea to celebrate a 70th birthday. Our party of 13 was aged between 5 and 85 and the staff went out of their way to include the little ones - making a special child’s afternoon tea !
We were seated in the library and had the room to ourselves. The food was incredible and the dry ice added a touch of magic to our day!
The Hotel looks very festive to and us well worth a visit.

The hotel itself if stunning! Hence why my husband and I chose to stay there on the night of our wedding. All of our bridal party and family booked to stay there too, so we could all wake up together after our wonderful wedding day. Unfortunately, all it done was cause stress, and left one of my bridesmaids without a room and having to go home. One month later and I still have received a response to my complaint!

Two days before my wedding I received an email to say one of my rooms had been cancelled. I called the hotel immediately and dealt with Mollie, who was very pleasant, however, she didn’t fill me with confidence! She explained somebody had called to cancel a room from my wedding party. However, I explained I did not make this booking for them they made it themselves and they shouldn’t have cancelled one of my room bookings. I repeatedly explained how many rooms I had booked and who they were for. 35 minutes I was on the phone for! Mollie asked me to follow up with an email. Which I did and clearly explained it wasn’t my room booking and they shouldn’t have cancelled it!
On the night of the wedding we go there to check in, just as I suspected, not enough rooms!!! There were no hospitality staff there to deal with my query, only bar staff, who told me on several occasions that they were sorry but they were not trained in hospitality. I ended up spending 45 minutes stood in my wedding dress trying to sort this out! This resulted in one of my bridesmaids having to go home. I was very upset, deflated, tired and frustrated. It was a dreadful end to the best day of my life.
The bar staff were brilliant, considering they had no training in hospitality. They apologised and went over and above to make things ok, after all, it wasn’t their fault! They reassured me that they would complete a full handover with the manager, Jayne.
The following morning, when checking out, Jayne was at reception. I explained to her what had happened the night before and the upset it had cause not only on my wedding night but two days before my wedding also. I also advised that I did not want to discuss it at that moment, as I didn’t want to ruin the lovely wedding bubble my husband and I were in. But I asked for somebody to look into it and contact me the following week. Jayne didn’t even have it in her to apologise! The least I expected was an apology from the hospitality manager of all people!!! But nothing. I did not hear the following week, so therefore, emailed them myself. I had a response putting the blame back on to myself, explaining they followed my instructions and that the bar staff apologised the night before. They offered us an afternoon tea as compensation however, after spending nearly £2000 at the hotel that night, I didn’t feel a £25 afternoon tea was adequate! I responded explaining that I never instructed them to cancel one of my rooms and I couldn’t believe they’d cancel one of MY bookings without speaking to me. Nearly 4 weeks later and I’m still waiting for a response!
Absolutely horrendous customer service, especially from a hospitality manager. I would strongly advise people not to make group bookings at this hotel! Especially not on your wedding night!

I wanted to visit this place for many years, and finally got round to making a reservation. 3 friends having afternoon tea and cocktails, and it was everything I had imagined.

The dry ice amuse bouche was a wonderful touch. The food was tasty and plentiful. Personally I like to eat my afternoon tea in a certain order, so would have preferred my scones to arrive at the same time, not separately and afterwards.

The service was wonderful - no complaints, attentive and friendly.

We had cocktails which were wonderful.

Will definitely return for when the menu changes and to experience different flavours.

Thank you for a great afternoon.
