At times it felt as if the M25 (for pedestrians) had moved to the Denbies Hillside during the many lockdowns but on my several visits with different friends it was just lovely to stroll, in the fresh air, see the vines at their different stages and imbibe the glorious views.
The paths are well maintained and there are quite a few different ways to walk, each with varying views, over Box Hill, Dorking, Ranmore, or back up the valley towards Polesden Lacey and Leatherhead.
How fortunate to have this glorious estate on our doorstep! Lots of people clearly feel the same as the car parks become quite busy at times.

There are two car parks. The first gives views over the escarpment, about a mile further on a second gives access to many lovely woodland walks. Both have their attraction, but I preferred the second because it was quieter and immediately into the woods. Lots of lovely walks and donation requested for parking, if you wish!

Denbies Hillside is one of the very best areas of the North Downs for views and for walking, it's mostly owned by the National Trust or the Forestry Commission, and is generally well looked-after. There are lots of really good walks from here – check online and in guidebooks. Sometimes, cattle are used here to graze the chalk grasslands, so take care, especially if you’re with your dog. National Trust members can park for free, but still need to get a parking ticket from the machine, free on production of membership card. Others must pay – or go half-a-mile further on to the free Forestry Commission car park.

National Trust car park here is £6 per day for non-members but well worth it. Can be used as the starting point for several lovely walks through woods with hills and nice country views. Near to Denbies Wine Estate and Polesden Lacey (also National Trust).

This is a walking path that leads to the hills and some great surrounding views of the area. National Trust.

Great tours of the vineyards, and a nice feel to the whole place. Not cheap for purchasing products, but their wine and bubbly on sale often has discounts available, and can still be very good value for some excellent drinks products.

A truly lovely meal. Views are gorgeous. Service was great and food delicious. Our bill was close to £100 though and that was just for two of us and no alcohol and we didn't eat loads. We wouldn't go often just because of the expense but we did really enjoy it.

We have visited Denbies winery on many occasions, participated in the wine tour, eaten in the restaurant, and travelled around the vineyards on the tractor. However, in all my years of living in Surrey have never actually walked along the Denbies Hillside.

We finally made a visit today looking for bluebells. We were not disappointed as the woods were full.

The view from the hillside is spectacular – even the two grandchildren were impressed. This truly is England’s green and pleasant land at it’s best. So hard to believe you are little more than 20 miles from the centre of London.

There is a charge for parking but if you are a National Trust member this is free.

For something different, and wanted to do for years, we travelled to Denbies in Dorking to experience the guided tour by trailer of the vineyard and up into the hills. We booked online and on arrival received clear and precise instructions on what to do. Picking up the train outside the main entrance, we travelled up into the hills overlooking Denbies and the surrounding areas. The tour provided a running commentary of the local history and there were plenty of opportunities to take photographs. The entire tour took 50 minutes and was brilliant - it will be necessary to do this again in different seasons to see and appreciate the contrasts.

just great views across Surrey from the main NT car park, in through the gate and across the fields for great views and paths leading both ways along the side of the hill.
Coffee van sometimes parked up in car park, nice to have a coffee after a lovely walk
