Clovelly is a pretty fishing village with steep cobbled streets. Apart from a few houses with old photos mocking up what life used to be like…that’s about it. The real issue is that at £8.25 per adult it felt like a total rip off. Had there been somewhere really decent for some fresh seafood and drinks down by the harbour we would have felt less disappointed but sadly this wasn’t the case, the food by the harbour was served in polystyrene and drinks out of plastic glasses. Advice would be save your money and visit other pretty villages who won’t charge an entry fee and provide a genuine taste of the area. The only place I can see this money being spent is the visitor centre and paying the salaries of those manning it. Shame.

So 11 of us and 2 dogs visited after spending Christmas locally.

It's a beautiful village you definitely won't be disappointed with the view, lots of stunning pictures to be had.

I don't think I'd have been happy to pay to visit the village, especially off season/bank Holidays with very little open.

But it is stunning, I can see why they would charge, its going to reduce footfall with only people who really want to go attending and those cobbled paths are going to take some maintenance.

We attended on boxing day when there was no charge for the carpark or to enter the town due the hog roast bbq event held. Everyone was very friendly and it was a lovely event and a great way to spend boxing day.

Lovely little waterfall and rocky beach. Great for a walk, pictures, change of scenery and skimming stones or building rock towers. Think I saw some people fishing too. Some parts are harder to get across and unstable in places, so getting to the sea front or to the waterfall can be a challenge for some. It's definitely not the sort of space you can sunbathe on not really a spot to picnic or run about with balls ect but it is a stunning village and the pub offers some lovely outdoor seating to see the views. Defiantly worth a visit.

It is not an easy walk too and from the village. It is a very steep rocky path/road. Make sure you have sensible walking shoes with a good grip. If you try to wear heals, smooth soles or flip flops/sandals it is not going to end well. That said we managed to get down there with 4 of our party carrying different ailments (back, knee, ankle and a hip injury) just go slow.

The boxing day event included a land rover shuttle service to get back up the road which was helpful. £2.50 per adult but deffo worth it. Might have taken us all week to get back up the hill. There is a road that takes a slightly longer route but isn't cobbled. We wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the Land rover.

Love the town, very unique and nestled in the cliff. However £8.25 to enter per person is a complete rip off!
Especially when we went and not one shop was open.

We are glad to say we enjoyed our trip the museum was interesting and educational for children there a just a few things I’d like to point out,the fish is hard we thought it was not cooked properly also I don’t recommend for little children 2-5 years old because there legs get tired good though. Amazingly there was free fudge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for making this place lovely well mostly.

Proper rip-off.

£8.25 each to get in, for this you are able to walk down a hill to the sea, passing many run-down houses and closed shops. We asked at the entrance explicity, would there be places open once we get inside, given that it was December. The answer was yes the pottery, pubs and museum. For sure these were open but were not really of much interest. The museum is a dusty old house. The pottery was OK but not extensice. The pubs looked dirty and uninviiting so didn't bother. The other 'independent' shops were not open.

The striking thing was the run-down, uncared for nature of the place. Litter in the streets and general shabby feel.

Don't understand why an out-of-season rate is not offered as is not work £16 in Winter.

Save your money and visit Lynton and Lynmouth for free, which have more on offer and much the same geography and outlook.

A lovely place to visit, I read reviews where people complained about having to pay, this is an unspoilt village and the entrance fee I am sure contributes to the upkeep, if you do not want to pay then do not go, you miss out.
As a pair in our early 70's it was a, challenge going down and coming back, but without the effort we would have missed a wonderful place, the homes, are individual and add to the experience.
Sat in the harbour and enjoyed the sound of the sea, on the way back, we stopped at the New Inn, enjoyed a local beer and spoke with other visitors who had enjoyed the experience as much as, we had, will be back.

Beautiful village with history but no way should a family (2 adults and one child) have to pay around £20 to enter. I know it's privately owned but it's pure greed. I live in the Cotswolds where there are just as pretty villages and Hamlets but no one is charged to enter. Even Blenheim Palace is free to enter the grounds via a couple of local walkways.

Out of season and ridiculous prices. How about a tourist tax?. Most countries do this . I've had to pay it in Italy and Spain.

Beautiful village but charging to enter a village and it's beach, really?. Good job we never paid. We drove for an hour to reach the destination...then to see the charges...

That's why my review is a three star.

We had a day out here. Parking was free, but there was an entrance fee of £8.25 per adult which rather experience for a scroll into the village.

Their website says:

Entry to the village
• Parking
• Entry to Clovelly Court Gardens
• Entry to the Fisherman’s Cottage and Kingsley Museum
• Audio-visual experience
• General Facilities
• Access to the walks and beauty spots surrounding the area .

Having the dog with us meant we just used the parking (free), and walked into the village and walked along the harbour area.

The path down is all cobbled and step, which is easy to achieve. coming back up the hill gives your heart, lungs and legs a good work out. There is a land rover you can take back up the hill, but that is an additional cost.

The village is beautiful, but certainly not £8.25 each worth it just to walk down the hill and back up.

The village itself was lovely but not worth the £8 each to go and see it, especially when you have to pay extra for everything else.
