As it’s been mentioned by other travellers, it’s quite easy to get there by bus from Fenghuang city or Tongren (the Wall is between the cities). But it won’t be so easy to get back from the Wall as it was in my case.
I’ve visited this “Great Wall” in the last day of my Tongren journey. So after this place I was thinking this would be easy to get to the airport. So naive I was. No buses, no taxi drivers around. I walked to the highway and wanted to hail one of the passing by cars. Spent around 40 minutes on the road side without any result. Locals didn’t even know there was an airport in Tongren, they thought if its name is Fenghuang (Eng. Phoenix) airport then it should be nearby the Fenghuang city, which in the opposite direction from where it actually was.
So I gave up asking local people on how to get out of that place, just started hailing the cars. Finally I got a family who wanted to help, but they also didn’t know they had an airport in their city.
They gave me a lift, though they used an online navigator to get to the right place.
So be prepared for this kind of things when you’re going to that Wall.
P.S. it is not so spectacular as an original Great Wall of China. It will take up to 20-30 minutes to explore all the available surroundings. It will cost you 40 RMB and a lot of stress on how to find a way back to the city.

Don't expect anything like the famous great wall going for as far as the eye can see into the distance. But a nice side trip from Fenghuang- can be reached on bike in about an 1 or 2

The South Great Wall isn't comparable to the Great Wall up North, but it's very well worth the time if you're in Fenghuang anyway. This was built to separate Miaos into two groups.
Put on comfortable shoes for sure, some snacks, and a lot of water might also help. There are people selling water and cucumbers at every point where you would get tired, but just so you know that there's a lot of stairs.
There's a short description of this part of the wall, also in English, and the map of the area next to the entrance. (Should you have any Western toilet needs, they are served on the same ticket booth and parking lot level, when you go up, it's more traditional Chinese.)
There's a square with a huge chessboard inviting you in after the first set of stairs. If someone's not fit at all, that's where they should stop and take pictures. Otherwise this is where the climbing up (and down) the wall really begins. Nice Hunan scenery all around. Don't expect to see the wall all around the hills. There are some more ruins of the wall in the distance, but it's not too much.
All in all it's a nice getaway from over-the-top Fenghuang, really quiet compared to that old town. If you're at all interested in Miao history, this is a good place to contemplate over that.
I only gave it 4 out 5 stars, cause there wasn't much information other than the board next to the entrance. Otherwise it's great.
How to get there by public transport: There's a bus going from this station in Fenghuang: 土桥垅客运站 (which in turn is accessible from any main station from downtown). Just show this to people when you arrive at that end station, they'll point you to the right bus: The driver will tell you when to get off, but also you can see the wall from the bus already. (Not writing Romanized versions of these, even if people can read it, it's quicker to just show it in Chinese...)
