Planning to visit the area in May 2017. Wondering if it's possible to drive the General Highway and see the major "sights" in one day. I don't plan to do any extensive hiking but would like to see Grant Grove, Giant Forest Museum, Sherman Tree, Tunnel Log - maybe Moro Rock. Seems like one day may not be enough, but two days seems too much! Suggestions? Also looking for advice about how to make this drive a loop. Starting in Three Rivers, CA- thought we'd get to the north side of Generals Highway using local roads and then work our way down the highway back to Three Rivers.

While you want to do the trip quickly, please be aware that the hairpin turns on the drive to the park are very dangerous and many people drive like maniacs on those turns, so be aware of that. It might be worth taking more time to avoid such hazards. You can definitely see the major sites in one day if you have good weather and you head out very early. The best part of visiting, however, is really feeling like you are communing with the ancient forest. It's not about the "sights" so much as the experience, which includes even small things like the smell of the air. You'll see.
