Everyone was so nice and the food was amazing! The men on the boat were so fun and knowledgeable. We were amazed to see the monkeys and caimen.

We had a marvelous experience with the boat tour. When we arrived at the location, they had drinks and a beautiful pottery demonstration. The pottery was typical of Costa Rica and the demonstrator was a 5th generation potter. The boat tour was awesome. Our guides were so good at spotting all the wildlife. We saw Crocodiles, howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, all types of iguanas, Herron, king fisher birds, bats, etc.. even in the rain it was so amazing. After the tour we came back to the most delicious lunch you can imagine. Everything was fresh and mouth watering delicious. Typical costs rican fare… rice, beans, plantains, corn tortilllas, salad, dragon fruit, pineapple, coconut ice cream. It was all fresh made right before our eyes. There are not words to how good that food was! Truly incredible.

This boat tour was great and family friendly. We are here for a family reunion and took all of our kids and they had a great time. We saw a lot of fun wildlife on our river tour including birds, iguanas and crocodiles. The family style meal so totally awesome and everything was homemade and made in front of you (salad, rice and beans, grilled and fried chicken, corn tortillas, juice, dragon fruit ice cream). The staff and service was amazing and make you feel comfortable and well taken care of.

Awesome experience! We saw all kinds of birds and crocodiles on the tour, as well as howler monkeys, a few anteaters and jabiru on the way there and back.
The lunch was delicious, definitely don't skip that option! Most of it was sourced locally.
The corn tortilla demonstration was also really great!

5/5; four of us enjoyed the early morning bird tour with a very friendly guide and boat captain; Found quite a few birds and animals. Just have all the maps downloaded and ready on cell phones before you go as there may not proper internet connectivity going to the office and then to the river.

This was by far one of my favorite days in Costa Rica. I set up a private boat tour for my family of 5 adults. From start to finish, they were so professional and friendly. They arranged transportation for us, and communication was seamless.
Jose picked us up exactly as planned and was also our guide on the tour! We spent the whole morning with him, and he was fantastic!
Along with Antonio, the captain of the boat, I don't think we missed a single animal! We had such a great time and they were so informative. They interacted with all of us and made the tour so personal for our family. Some of us had never seen monkeys in the wild and when several climbed out of the trees into view, it was simply amazing.
It is something we will never forget.
I have to take step back to our arrival to their understated, but quaint and serene location. Such a charming spot to sit and have the brightest juice and the most delicious coffee. Soon we were treated to seeing how traditional palmed corn tortillas are made on a wood fire. Maria served them with the most amazing cheese.
The boat tour, the amazing lunch after the tour, the pottery show, the overall atmosphere, and the people who are involved are all just perfect. I will definitely to back the next time I am in Costa Rica!

This is one of the best tours in Costa Rica. The staff, including transportation was excellent. Great value for your money and including lunch. Didn't hurt that the sisters who operate this family owned tour are beautiful.

The tour was good. Our boat guide was excellent and the lunch delicious.
The logistics could be improved. For example, getting from the Palo Verde meeting point to where the river boat launches is a 15 min. drive. Fortunately we hired drivers to wait for us, because I wasn't sure what transportation would have been provided to the launching point.
Secondly, if you plan on taking Uber, be sure and arrange and pay for an Uber driver to wait for you because you won't be able to call and get an Uber to pick you up. The Palo Verde Boat tours meeting point is located in a remote location.

It was a great break from the busy pacific coast!
We made an online reservation (including lunch) and drove with our rental from playa Hermosa to Ortega. It was a beautiful drive through the country side. The last view kilometers the road was not paved - but in good conditions. Ortega is a small neat town, which we liked very much immediately.
The location of Palo Verde boat tours is very peaceful and relaxing. The company is run by local families- we felt very welcomed and integrated.
The tour with the boat was great! We saw many birds and animals on the tour. The explanations of our guide were very interesting and we felt how much he loves his place of home. We (two) got a boat for us alone with the guide (even we did not booked a private tour).
Do never miss the lunch after the tour!
We enjoyed the fresh cooked local food so much!
It was difficult to leave this wonderful place - we were the last tourists who went on their way back.
Why we got there? It was a tip of American tourists we met at a coffee shop at playa Portero & the recommendations on trip advisor.

When you arrive at the mainhouse, they will tell you how to get to the boats. Or once u drive thru the gate, turn right down to the river. There are signs. You will love it....I did

I messaged them through Facebook messenger and they messaged back, then emailed me the details. What’s App is a great idea too...that’s the best way to communicate with everyone in CR. If you need transportation, they booked us through a 3rd party (which was also great). Tours Your Way took us on most excursions around Guanacaste and Mainor was great.

There is a bit of a step into the boat from the launch ramp and again when getting off the boat. The captain is there to help you onto the boat but it could be difficult depending on your Mother’s abilities

The cost of the tour depends on how you book it. If you go through an adventure tour company and get the day package with lunch and transportation, it can be anywhere between $75-$95 USD per person. We received a discounted rate for our 6 yo just by asking the tour company. If you can find your way to the riverboat dock on your own it is somewhere in the $50-$60 range.
