this Church stands firm as a landmark in dapitan city's central district.
its interiors show antiquity but the resilient feature is more obvious. one can find the needed refuge and solitude for meditation and prayer.
if you're on your way to dakak, try dropping by this place of worship. it might help clear the cobwebs in your mind.

I visited this church last July 15, the feast of the patron saint of the Dapitanos, St. Michael the Archangel. If the Rizal Shrine is a must during your tour, this old church is very historical and existed before the national hero, therefore your first priority before the Talisay landmark. In front Rizal built a map of Mindanao. Rizal used to attend Mass here since he used to live in an old villa near the church before his house and dormitories were completed. in Talisay.
It also faces the old plaza and old municipio, thus your first landmark upon reaching the poblacion.It has retained its rustic atmosphere and most of the icons date back during the Hispanic colonization of Mindanao.Anywhere you roam around the poblacion the belfy would be your guide.I suggest you first stop here before proceeding to the shrine which had undergone several face lifting that the shrine had lost its original infrastructure. This church was the symbol of the people's blind faith to Catholicism. Because of the existence of the Catholic church, the people opposed then the construction of a school ran by the American missionaries who were protestants. Thus the builders were forced to moved accross the sea the Silliman University to Dumaguete, not in Dapitan as originally planned during the 1900s.Their faith had blinded the pro-Catholic residents and failed to obtained the best English education during that time.

Sites to visit while in Dapitan. Rizal Shrine is very interesting and historical. Free entrance and you can visit the museum and see photos

Old church or vintage look. Clean. It would be great if they add more lighting to the church and it needs a paint job.

This church is a historical church of faith because of its connections to Rizal exile in Dapitan...ancestral basilica where you can relay your faith along wt history. A very good place to visit.

I was amazed with the structure outside the church.The cleanliness were maintained. Also it was a pleasure that I was able to see the church where Rizal used to hear mass every sunday during his exiled in Dapitan. I saw the exact location where he always stood

Saw this historical 1871 church... There is a spot left side where Rizal would hear Masses. The pink ceiling is so different.
Sad but it needs a lot of cleaning and renovations:(

Nothing special. Just your typical church. It's good for those artsy types who can make an old church look great but there is nothing that makes it a must visit place in Dapitan.
