we knew right away that this monument is historical even from afar. people were flocking during sunset and posing left and right with Rizal's statue as the background.
apparently, this was where Rizal landed for the first time in dapitan city to spend three years of his life in exile. the people here were very fortunate that our national hero was sent here to serve them more than a century ago.
you will never miss this landmark while in dapitan city. take time to take some pictures. it's free!

Rizal’s Landing Place marks the beach where Jose Rizal landed when he was exiled by the Spanish colonial government to Dapitan. This is a noteworthy site for tourists traveling to the Rizal Shrine in Dapitan. Facing the sea, you can see the Rizal Shrine to your right. Including the Rizal’s Landing Place, Casa Real, Dapitan Park, and St. James Church—all within the Historic Center of Dapitan—to your itinerary will give a more exhaustive picture of how Rizal arrived and lived in Dapitan. These are short but meaningful stops along the way to the shrine.
The monument faces away from the shore and towards the Dapitan City proper, presumably towards the Casa Real, which was the residence and administration building of the Military Governor of Dapitan during the Spanish occupation, where Rizal was brought after he arrived. The monument features Rizal disembarking a boat while accompanied by Captain Delgras and three artillerymen, one of whom is holding Rizal’s luggage and a farol (lamp) de combate.
A National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) marker—then the National Historical Commission—has adorned the site since 1969. (A word of warning though: the historical marker is directly in front of the road and the only way to get a decent photo of the historical marker is to stand on the road itself.)
There is a road that encircles the monument from behind. This is where we parked our car during our visit. There were no other tourists when we were there although there were some locals who were exercising.
Aside from the monument, there is nothing else in the area. No shops, no stores, no food stalls, no facilities. After taking photos and drone shots, we left the site and headed towards the Dapitan City proper.

The Spot where Rizal first disembarked in Dapitan is marked by a Monument. Well its not really the Exact, as in Exact spot.

The oversized statues of Rizal and the guardia civil is commendable, just like Sikatuna's blood compact in Bohol and McArthur's landing in Tacloban because it is visible from a distance.But the surrounding area of the landing site is dirty and needs improvement of even a whitewash would do. I suggest the road leading to the site should be adorned with Spanish-time lampposts not modern to create the right ambiance. Replica of old houses could be built near the site to create the time of Rizal's landing in 1863. Oil lamps of Rizal's time could be displayed on the posts leading to the site.There should be enough souvenir stores for tourists. Because of the lack of restaurants tourists spend only a few minutes on the site. Others just stayed on the vehicles and viewed the site hastily then leave for the shrine or the church plaza.
Aside from the statues, tourists have nothing more to do after having a selfie or two with Rizal as a backdrop. The vicinity needs much improvement. The city government has started to clean up the area by removing old, dilapidated food stalls and widening the road--but that's the only improvement. You cant stay long at the landing site because there's not much to do unless you have to wait for twilight to see the sunset.

Jose Rizal was a part of Philippine History. I would recommend this place to anyone who is first time comers in Dipolog including my self. People keep their place clean & safe. I would go back to see the place again. Thank You

This monument is a sight to behold. Not everyone has been privvy to what did occur during the exile of our national Hero. This gives one an idea of what might have been.

This is the place where Rizal, a national hero of the Philippines, landed. Since there is only few touristic site in Dipolog, this is a major tourist attraction. Although I don’t know about the history of the country, I found this place is very beautiful. It is a good spot to take a picture.

you cannot miss this landmark if you’re in dapitan city, particularly if you’re en route to dakak and back. it may appear similar to the sculpture of gen mcarthur landing in leyte. i even mistook it as such.
i never knew about this landmark until i got to visit dapitan and i was not aware of it being a tourist spot. i’m thankful i got to see this and took some pictures for posterity.
