Beautiful hermitage, with its walls covered with stone shells! The interior is also beautiful, with its huge shell on the main altar and its glass windows! Do not fail to see the statue of the donkey, very close to the entrance of the church and do not fail to go to the water, where you can see the fish, always from one side to the other! :)

If you are in La Toja it is worth getting close even if you cannot enter inside. Also, it is very close to the shop and the views are beautiful

What an experience! The whole facade full of shells. Be sure to go around the church once, in the back it is not so prescribed.

To this small chapel plated in shells located on the island of Toja next to the museum, you could not enter, it was reserved because they were with a wedding, a shame. We could only enjoy it on the outside.

We visited the San Sebastian chapel once again. It is an example of popular art and a work to take advantage of the natural amazing beauty of Conchas/Shells.

Unfortunately, parking on Isla a Toxa has become expensive or complicated and the island is losing more and more of its charm due to tourism. The impressive shell church should also be restored more.
It used to be impressive how the island was a flower and garden paradise. Now everything is built up or driven together.

Beautiful hermitage whose façade is made with scallop shells on the island of La Toja, in O Grove, Galicia. It is reached by crossing a bridge and taking a beautiful walk.

My wife and I visit a lot of places of worship as we are interested in the architecture. This little hermitage is unique due to it having a façade of shells.
Many of the shells have names written on them which I think ruins it a bit. It’s one of those things that when you see very old graffiti it can be deemed cool, yet anything new seems to be akin to vandalism. I understand the ridiculousness of this as perhaps one day in the future, the markings made today will be seen as worthy.
The outside is much more interesting than the interior, it’s somewhat of a standard/humble church which differs from most Spanish places of worship.
It’s a pleasant walk around especially if you’re trying to keep your steps up.

This hermitage is completely covered in scallop shells! From one end to the other covered with these shells. The effect is very different from all the other chapels I have visited. The interior is small and simple with some small stained glass windows that illuminate the interior.
Now message donkeys...
You idiots... This hermitage is a heritage site and does not need your signatures. Seriously, there is no one on this planet who is interested in knowing that you, a person with serious cognitive disabilities, have been here.
Nobody needs your eternal declaration of love... Seriously! It was probably weekend love and she already cheated on you with your friend...
Do you want to subscribe?? Do it on your forehead with a permanent marker.
