i was told all i needed for a visit was half an hour, how wrong they were. three hours in and i was loving it. 20 buildings and access to interiors, earliest being the 1870's all full of items from the relevant era.
i went mid week and the although it was not full of folk, i didn't experience the forge being open.
the staff are cheerful and knowledgeable, lady in the school house was charming and lovely to chat too.
sadly the cafe is currently closed otherwise our visit would have been even longer.
is you have an afternoon to see some superb examples of Australian architecture and original contents then its a must at $10 a head its a steal.
fingers crossed that cafe gets reopened soon

Pretty impressive look at colonial history of Australia. The printing press exhibit and school were particularly good demonstrations that my kids loved. I was disappointed that there was not a welcome to country or acknowledgement of the indigenous exclusions that were present at that time. There was a bush Tucker walk which was centred around indigenous knowledge. However there was no accountability explaining the lands were never ceded. A real missed opportunity for truth telling. Worth a visit my children loved it but I found myself having to explain things with an anti-colonial lens so they would have a fuller picture of our history.

Very interesting place to visit to have a look at old Australia. Well looked after with great collection of memorabilia. Can easily spend a few hours here with a break for refreshments at the cafe.

I visited with family while I am on holiday here. It was nice to have a look around the stalls with lots of handmade goods. The houses were interesting showing a by-gone age. We had cake and coffee in the cafe which was very nice and lots of tables. An enjoyable morning.

Attended the sport of the red sand. It was very well organized from the outset. As the show is in the evening they provided bug spray. Ideally wear comfy shoes as you walk around the museum grounds which were a bit rough underfoot.
The story talks about the white settlers and their impact on the aboriginal people. It was informative and some information was graphic.
All our group enjoyed the storyline.
We were provided with a wonderful meal, that again was well organized for the amount of people they were catering for, one of our party had a dietary requirement the staff went to check what food was suitable. The food was of a high standard and was replenished quickly. Would highly recommend this as a family night out.

There is an event that happens several times a week here that is one of the best Hingis I’ve been to in many years! It is an evening show called “Spirits of the Red Sand”. It tells the story of the early days of Beenleigh and the plight of the Aboriginal people. It is an amazing experience and very educational! I can not endorse this enough! It is a MUST SEE for everyone, especially the young people! Well done to all the staff there on the night! The dinner at the end was also amazing! You guys all deserve the very best! God bless you all!

We took our 7 yr old daughter the village. We arrived about 10am and walked the first half of the village for about 2 hours. Each area has plenty to look and see, our daughter was most interested in the old slab hut. We had lunch at the cafe the chips were fantastic and some of the best we've had. The schnitzels were perfect. Prices were reasonable. it was a good place to hide from our rainy windy day. the next two hours were spent in the remaining areas of the village and we were blown away by the hand size of an immigrant work here to cut cane. Prices for admission were $8 Adult and $4 kids, very reasonable... well worth a visit.

What a great insight into Beenleigh' bygone years and the life style of the region. Well set out display of original historic buildings from the area with most around 100years old and some even more. Information boards well done. Inside each one is a wonderful collection of old items, relics, tools, clothes, utensils, equipment, memorabilia etc. Good display of old farming vehicles, fire truck, old diary and more. There's the Tin Cup Cafe and Deck in the old Railway Station. Really reasonable prices for a snack or lunch. Good menu choices. Attached is a gift shop and Art Gallery with local artisans selling their wares. Beautiful, good priced hand made cards. Reasonable entry price. Open 7 days Allow at least 2hrs. Arts and Crafts Market coming up on Saturday Aug 24th, and Heritage Day on Sunday 8th September.

Tucked just off the M1 at the Beenleigh is a fascinating insight into the local architecture and history of the Beenleigh region. 20 or so buildings from the 19th or early 20th century on display including many period items.
Included in the buildings are the old Beenleigh rail station, Post Office, a one room school house and bark slab huts from the 1870s among other period houses. An art gallery and excellent cafe are also on site.
A great way to spend a few hours if history is your thing.

Went with a group of 7 others to the new dinner and show, "Spirit of the Red Sands" a couple of weeks ago. Did not realize it was an "industry night" and show is still in its "rehearsal stage" and grounds not finished. We were charged $89 each, which i thought was way overpriced for what we got. Granted the meal was nice, or though served too late. I did not appreciate the walk between each act over uneven and dangerous ground in the semi darkness and sitting on wet hay bales at one of them. The seating in the tents was on same level as the "actors" and you couldn't see properly between other peoples heads. I think this attraction needs a lot of work and thought put into it before opening properly, taking into account people with mobility issues especially and the pricing needs to decrease. For us, once was enough and anyone that asks me about it will be told truthfully what to expect so they can make their own judgement.
