Honestly one of my favorite experiences. My husband and I have done other hiking excursions during our travels in the past but this one is different. TJ is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and thoughtful. The views are breathtaking throughout, the beach is beautiful, and the meal / stars at the end are a perfect cherry on top. The hike is a bit difficult at times, but guests are encouraged to take their time and just soak it all in. We’ll definitely be coming back for a different hike with TJ next time we’re in the Algarve!

What an incredible experience! I’m not much of a hiker but TJ made this hike utterly unforgettable. Breathtaking scenery, the chance to have a dip in the awesome west coast Atlantic, a beautiful sunset (with the moon rising behind us!!) and topped off with some delicious homemade dishes and some great stories. TJ is incredibly knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the local history and coastline and flora and fauna, all in all a very wholesome, rewarding and fantastic experience. I can’t rate this highly enough. Even if you don’t normally hike you will still have a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoy yourself!

The hiking trip with TJ was definitely a highlight of my entire trip to Portugal. He took us on an incredible trail off the beaten path, showing us different landscapes and nature of the West Coast of Lagos. He showed us breathtaking views throughout the hike and we saw a beautiful sunset. The best part was the homemade, authentic Portuguese picnic dinner under the stars. I would definitely recommend this hiking tour to everyone!!

We had a fabulous afternoon and evening exploring the west coast with TJ. He was so knowledgable and took us to some truly spectacular places. Our favourite part was the dinner and stargazing experience. TJ had prepared a selection of traditional Portuguese foods and it was a lovely time to chill and make new friends. The hike was also lovely although a lot shorter than we expected - probably around 2 miles at best (although it was up and down the cliffs which made it quite challenging at times). This would definitely be a 5 star experience if the hike was longer and took in a larger proportion of the coast.

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience, and sad that I did not set your expectations correctly.
The experience I share is about quality, not quantity. You can never "see" it all. So, I don't even try. Instead, I lead us on a journey deep into the most secret corners of the coastline, places that demand a slow speed to get there, and to soak it up. If we had tried to "take in a larger proportion of the coastline", we would not have made it to such "spectacular places", places that requried demanding hills and some climbing and scramlbing to get to; we would not have seen landscapes that no other humans see, would not have had time to learn, explore, relax, laugh, hear stories, and more.
The number of miles or steps will never capture the views, the wind, the feeling of the heights, the rocks we felt or plants we smelled, the learning and understanding. However, all of my tours are more than 2 miles...
As well, we did do two different hikes in two different parts of the coastline that inlcluded the tallest cliffs in Portugal, a secret beach, forests, valleys, ridges, and more...
In addition, it is implortant to note that this is a group tour, so we are always limited by the group. You may have wanted to go "faster" but we have to go at the pace of the entire group.
Lastly, each day is different: Some days, we do cover a lot more distance (up to 8 miles), but if we do, we are on easier trails and so do not get to the places we got to together.
So, in summary,thanks for the feedback. It is a good opportunity for me to set the expectations so that people know that the slow pace is a feature, not a bug :)

This had to be one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. This amazing hike through incredible sceneries culminated in a wonderful picnic dinner under the stars. TJ is absolutely awesome! Makes you feel comfortable and safe. His food is so delicious. My teenage daughters loved it and still talk about it. So glad we did it. Memories for a lifetime!

We were recommended to go on this hike by a colleague of mine and I cannot thank her enough for suggesting it. TJ really cares about the experience he is providing to the group. The hike was breathtaking and the picnic was well earned and so tasty. We were lucky enough to be on the tour with his parents, who made the day even more delightful. This tour blows the kayak tour within Lagos out of the water by a long shot.

Thanks Alexa! That was a memorable tour, the one I shared with my parents :) Yes, the karak tour is not comparable... there are 20 kayak tours a day in Lagos, all doing the same cookie cutter, 2 hour, impersonal tour, with up to 30 guests and no personal touch. Mine is, well, very different: Just me, a few times a week, with a small group, doing something that no one else does :) Anyway, thanks for the kind words, it means a lot.

Unbelievable experience with TJ! From start to finish TJ guided us through an amazing hike up the mountain to unreal views to the hiking down the mountain to an amazing beach with a perfect sunset. It was the perfect afternoon to top it off with an amazing dinner under the stars. An overall perfect day! It is a must when in Portugal! TJ is the best!!!

Very wholesome experience along the awesome west coast of Portugal, which is very different from the south. Much more rugged and wild.
Even though we had been to the area before, TJ showed us hidden paths and trails, and had a lot to tell about the nature and history of the place. The capstone of the day was the sunset picnic, where TJ amazed us with stories of local and homemade food, that we then delighted in.
To sit and chat on a blanket under the stars with fellow travellers from across the world is an amazing experience, thanks TJ for organizing this wonderful day!
I'd recommend good hiking shoes and to bring swimwear if you want to take a dip in the ocean (though optional and you don't really miss out if you don't). Otherwise the hike is relatively easy up and down some hills.

This hike was the best thing I’ve ever done. TJ helped me push myself to limits I didn’t think I think I had in me. I was easily the least experienced on the hike but was never made to feel that way. TJ would pause the group to show them something, while I knew he was really waiting for me to catch up without making me feel bad. His peaceful and kind nature is out of this world. I saw the most beautiful sights, felt the highest of highs and had the most delicious dinner under the stars. It felt like a movie. Father TJ, there’s no one like you! Thank you for showing me what I’m capable of!
