Alfredo was our guide and was very educated and walked through the corridors of Pompeii with such ease. I learned so much, but realize how much more there is to explore. We’ll go this route to tour again.

Che Pompei era meravigliosa lo sapevamo, ma con una guida come Eduardo è stata ancora più apprezzata, veramente consigliata!

Oggi visita agli Scavi di Pompei.
Gruppo di 18 persone. Indispensabile la guida audio, perché ogni tanto inevitabilmente ci si allontana e così non si perde niente della descrizione.
Due ore sono volate tra decumani, cardi, case negozi e aneddoti sugli Scavi e sulla vita di 2000 anni fa....
Eduardo è stato molto bravo e lo consiglio per chi voglia prenotare con Askos

We loved our Pompeii Small Group Tour with a local Archaeologist! We chose to do this as a quick day trip during our European honeymoon last September and and I'm so grateful we made time for this! After seeing this and doing such an informative tour, I truly believe this is something everyone must see at least once in their lives. Our guide spoke great English, kept the tour moving and taught us so much about the history behind Pompeii! Thank you to our guide for making this such a wonderful and memorable experience for us!

Brilliant tour, very informative and entertaining guide. It’s a very unique and interesting place to visit. A tour gave us a good starting point - we did this and then wandered around on our own for several hours.

We were lucky enough to be guided by Mr. Camillo Sorrentino, part of the Askos Tours group. Gorgeous person, polite and very nice! He managed to convey his passion for this mysterious city of Pompeii!
Moreover, it completely immersed us in this visit that became an adventure that took us back in time.

Really good tour, our guide Giancarlo was so knowledgeable. We learned so many historical facts that we never would have known if we had explored on our own.

Visiting Pompeii is a great experience and I definitely recommend it be done with a professional guide. Without the advantage of the explanation it offers it would be very complicated.
They must be prepared to walk a lot in uneven terrain, it cannot be different considering that you are in a city Rome with cobblestone streets were buried in ashes in 79 BC but even founded before. After the end of the visit you can stay in place for as long as you want. For us the time of the guided tour was enough and you visit the most important places.

what is the best form of transportation from Rome to the site? I would prefer to not have to rent a car. Thanks

You can take a train from Rome to Naples in under an hour (look up trenitalia online - not allowed to post links here apparently) and then in Naples you switch to a local train, the Circumvesuviana. Local trains run every half hour or so and you can buy a ticket and board the train downstairs from where the high speed trains come in. The whole trip would be about an hour and a half - maybe a little more depending on connections.

Streets are cobbled and very uneven and it is quite a large site. I would say it might be challenging for someone with limited mobility. Herculaneum would probably be a good alternative if you had concerns.

Hi, we are thinking of reserving a tour in Oct. This tour sounds great. Does it include both Pompeii and Herculaneum or just Pompeii? We are definitely interested in seeing both during our stay in Naples. Brian

Mine just included Pompeii but the archeologist (Paolo) talked a lot about the correlations between Pompeii and Herculaneum as he's actively working at these sites.
