I attended the "Croissants" baking class once before - It was Great! so I came back for "Chocolate Eclairs" workshop. The place is inviting, clean and cozy. The instructor is professional, kind and gave us tips for good and varied preparation. To finish off we were honored by the fresh Eclairs that we prepared with coffee / tea and afterwards we received boxes full of Eclairs to take with us. When my kids tried those Eclairs they loved it! A fun and recommended experience : - )

Our class in baking eclairs and cream puffs was expertly led by our chef, Guillaume. He was patient, helpful, and thorough in coaching us to bake French pastries. The company of our classmate and setting were delightful too. Plus we got to eat our delicious work. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend this cooking adventure. Our class was very small with a highly skilled, attentive instructor. Plus you can meet other like minded students. Lots of fun with delicious results.

Baking has always been a hobby as far as I can remember. I have always wanted to take a baking class in Paris and finally fulfilled my bucket list items when I signed up for the Chocolate Eclairs & Cream Puffs class. It was lovely on all aspects! The space is cozy, decorated wonderfully incorporating all aspects of warmth and France into one. Amanda was amazing, her instruction, attentiveness, and ability to walk us through each and every step and explain the "why" behind the technique. I highly recommend Le Foodist! I would definitely go back for more classes when I return to Paris. Thank you, again...Amanda. You've definitely inspired me to pursue more French baking and more experimenting with recipes!

This is my first time taking a cooking class from Le Foodists--eclairs and profiteroles from 3pm to 6pm.
What I enjoyed:
1. Our instructor, Guillaume, was an excellent instructor -- giving clear instructions, providing ample of demos, spoke very good English, very patient, funny, and answered all questions without being annoyed. I just adored his accent!--so sexy...lol...
2. The eclairs and profiteroles all turned out beautifully and very delicious and there were plenty for us to eat and bring home. I had a big lunch so I could only eat one profiterole with whip cream so I saved my share to bring home along with the ones our instructor had packed for us. Guillaume was very good in sharing all the little tips of what "not" to do in order to have successful pastries...those tips were very invaluable.
3. The ambiance of the cooking school is very nice...cool with air conditioning, brightly lit, new looking, and very clean.
4. We were able to enjoy our baked goods at a table with our classmates along with a cup of coffee.
5. The location was easy to find...only a 10 minute walk from Notre Dame or easily accessible by metro Cardinal Lemoine or Bus #47.

What could be better:
1. There were only 4 in our class and we were paired up into 2s. Even with a full class of 8 students, they still would pair us up. For me, I would have prefered to have done it "individually" so that I would have enough practice. By sharing with a partner, you always have to ensure you do not hog up the experience and sometimes, one person ends up doing more. For me, "you do it, you remember" so I would have preferred to have done more myself and not have a partner.
2. It would be great if our instructor can have his own piping bag to demo instead of using ours so that, again, there is more opportunity for the students to "do it" ourselves.
3. I appreciate the school sending us the recipes 24 to 48 hours later but I think I would prefer an actual paper copy with us to bring home and have this copy with us during the entire time while we cooked so we can refer to it ourselves in order to remember what we had done.
4. Without having the paper copy infront of us or with us on the phone there, it is hard to know if those little helpful "tips" have been written for us these tips are so important.

I enjoyed my 3 hours but I did not get to do "hands on" as much as I would have liked and to me, that is everything.

Bonjour cliu, thank you for your detailed review of your experience learning how to make eclairs and profiteroles at Le Foodist with Guillaume. I am glad the instruction, location, ambience of the place, the eclairs themselves and our teatime session met with your full approval. In particular the teatime experience at the end of the class which I am told we are the only ones to offer in Paris for such an experience. Thank you as well for indicating what would have better for you. Having done this for many years years now, we have thought through and even experimented with all your suggestions, so it is based on experience that I will provide you my feedback: 1 & 2. Indeed during our pastry or baking classes, people work in pairs - like in any such pastry or baking classes offered in Paris. Which obviously is perfectly suited by couples, parent/child experiences, etc... But more imprtantly considering the quantity of equipment we use, it just would just not make any sense to do it any other way (one kitchen aid per person, really??). But obvioulsy it does not affect how much each individual does, as the quantities are just doubled from what any individual would do if they worked on their own. So we just have small economies of scale on equipment as a result. And just to clarify, each person leaves with a box full of their creations, so the quantity is not and has never been an issue (except maybe we make too much, I guess ...). 3 & 4. When we started givng those classes, we gave printed recipes. There were two issues with this: a. people often forgot them, and then asked us to send the recipes via email. b. more importantly we found that some people could not help but read the recipes instead of following the Chef's instructions, tips and tricks. Which ended up getting the chef to repeat what she/he was explaining to those very people who read instead of listening. And often this affected the results. Everybody is different of course, but based on these multiple experiences we decided that it was much better to have people exchange with the Chef, listen to tips and tricks and make notes/videos/photos of anything relevant rather than "read a recipe". And it is probably better for the environment. But to your point, indeed our recipes are just recipes and not a cookbook; so they are not a list of tips and tricks and are not substitute for a class when the instructor explains why we do what we do, what we should look for at critical steps of cooking, etc... this in our mind is what differentiates a class from a recipe. This was a professional class with amazing, friendly instructors that somehow got a bunch of mediocre bakers to produce some beautifully scrumptious chocolat éclairs. I would give them 100 stars, but unfortunately I can only do 5.
My parents dropped off my sister and I to do this cooking class tired and grumpy, but we came back with overstuffed stomachs and huge smiles. They had a comfortable waiting room where my parents could sit and one of the other chefs talked to them for a while, and everybody was extremely friendly. I feel like I learned a lot but also had a ton of fun. Definitely recommended!!

Our instructor was Frederick. We had a great time learning to make creampuffs and eclairs. We learned how to make the dough from scratch and learned how to pipe the cream into the creampuffs and the eclairs. We made the pastries from start to finish. Frederick made the experience fun and enjoyable. We got to eat our finished product and had plenty left to take back to our hotel. I would definitely recommend this class.

My 16-year-old niece and I took this class with Anne and it was the highlight of our trip to Paris! We had so many laughs and will remember this experience always. It turned out that we were the only 2 who signed up this particular evening and Le Foodist still let the class run, which was so kind of them. We had individual attention and learned so much about technique and ended up with almost 30 delicious cream puffs and eclairs. Anne was so welcoming and kind and had a lot of patience with us. Le Foodist is a wonderful place full of friendly staff, lovely decor, clean and incredibly wonderful teachers! I highly recommend this experience and will definitely do another class next time I'm in Paris. Merci beaucoup Anne :)

My husband and I spontaneously booked this class on a trip to Paris and we LOVED it. We were with another 4 people and learnt so much, the vibe was so authentic, welcoming and FRENCH! Everybody spoke good English and the setup is fantastic. We returned to Malta and made the recipes (which they send you by email) for our friends. Also email support was fantastic in solving issues (Thank you Fred). Our teacher was a lovely French lady with short pixie hair but unfortunately I cannot remember her name, she was super. Once you finish your class you have tea altogether and they give you take away bags with your creations for home - so sweet! Next time we will be in Paris we will book the Macaroon class. Well done - awesome experience!
