Lollypopcorn Singapapore Blk 248 Ang Mo Kio Ave 2 St 21 #11-10 11th storey (far right corner) Singapore [--] [--] Length of stay: 1 night – August 13, 2008 # of persons: 2 Cost: (booking made via hostelworld.com) SGD90.00 (10% charged to the credit card, remaining amount payable upon arrival. SGD50 given to owner as refundable deposit for the keys). Location: Ang Mo Kio (About 45mins from Suntec City) Getting there: To get to the MRT from Lollypopcorn: Take the bus (there are several like Bus#262) in front of the apartment complex. It will take you to Ang Mo Kio (AMK) hub or central station. From there, you can take a bus or the MRT going to any destination in Singapore. Taxi fare: From Suntec City, we took a taxi to Lollypopcorn. We spent SGD14.00 for the taxi ride. Going to the airport from Lollypopcorn: Since we had 2 big suitcases, we had to take a taxi to the airport. We spent around $16-17 from the apartment complex. Lollypopcorn is a bit far from the city. For those who have a lot of time to while away the day and really get a feel for the Singapore life, Lollypopcorn is an ideal place. It is clean, secure, and the owners/staff are friendly. I have heard that there are some job-hunters who stay here for a week or two. During our stay, we went to the Singapore Zoo and we took the bus to AMK hub/central station. From the bus station, we took another bus that went directly to the Zoo. We came home late (around 1am in the morning). We were able to catch the last train to AMK then upon arrival, we took a taxi to the hostel. Since it was early in the morning, there was a taxi surcharge -- our total fare amounted to SGD7 from the hub to the apartment. Tip: Block 248 (there are signs at the front of the building indicating the block number) is located in a bigger block called Block 259. Buses usually pass through this block. If you are riding a bus to get to Lollypopcorn, specify Block 259. It is the closest to the actual apartment complex. The landmark is a long waiting shed. Description of the place: Lollypopcorn is a unit in an apartment complex. From my understanding of the living conditions in Singapore, locals are given an opportunity to own apartments. An HDB is one such opportunity. Lollypopcorn is located in an HDB (Block 248) in Singapore in the 11th floor/storey. It is the unit in the farthest right side of the complex thus it is a corner unit. There are 3 rooms for rent in the unit, Lolly, Pop, and Corn – thus the name of the hostel…… The common areas are the hallway and the kitchen. You take your breakfast in the hallway which has a table attached to the wall serving as the eating area. This area also contains brochures and maps you would need to get around the city. Upon arrival, don’t forget to take a flyer that the owners made to help travelers. The sheet contains the buses to take and more importantly the address and contact number of Lollypopcorn for quick reference. The apartment unit is very clean maybe owing to the fact that they hire a full-time household helper (her name is Emelyn). Emelyn is actually very helpful and would easily answer your questions regarding what bus to take or where to wait for a taxi. She also prepares the morning breakfast (egg, hotdog, and beans plus bread if you prefer). There is juice served in the morning and unlimited instant coffee. The room (Corn) we stayed in had a queen-sized bed and an additional bed. It can actually accommodate up to 3 people. There was a TV set though we didn’t get to open it. There was internet connection and it was available for free. It was like staying at a friend’s house for the night. The sheets were clean and the room was dust-free. There was only one bathroom for the three rooms so if you stayed there with all the rooms occupied, expect to share the bathroom with 5-6 other people. The private areas (like 2 rooms occupied by the owners) and private cabinets are labeled so guests know which areas they can access and those that they cannot.…
