As a 20 year Army veteran, I've been to several museums. This is museum has the largest selection of military items I've seen, one you would expect to see in a major metropolitan area or military installation. The staff are amazing and seemed to know everything about everything there!

Really a very, very good museum. Packed with artifacts and well-labeled, with a truly expansive indoor collection. Highlights for me were the national ensign flown at D-Day, the paper parachute from the Japanese bombs dropped over the PNW in WWII, and the small arms collection. There were a few things that seem not to have been as well researched or labeled, all of a naval nature, that I’d like to see improvement on in the future - the Japanese lookout binoculars, the ship’s bell from a destroyer by the exit, the USCG ship’s clock in the gift shop, and the nuclear attack submarine artifacts. As a guy who prefers naval history, I was slightly disappointed that these items didn’t have the same level of detail in their descriptions as some of the more generic and common rifles, pistols, uniforms, etc.
Two other criticisms: 1/ having the front desk person take guests over to the start of the self-guided tour and spent 10 minutes telling them about the items they are going to see is a major waste of time. And, it means anyone who has the misfortune of arriving behind anyone else is going to sit around at the admissions counter for 10 minutes waiting to pay. I thought that was poorly done, and pretty rude. Plus, I don’t need a rundown. I can read, and prefer to go start reading rather than listening to someone talk. The lady said USS New York (LPD-21) is made of the World Trade Centers… but that’s not really accurate. 6.8 tons of USS New York came from the WTC. The ship is 24,900 tons. That’s… 0.02% of the ship. She should not be telling visitors the ship is made of the WTC without clarifying that the amount is symbolic and very small. It just spreads myths. The same lady spent way too much time with the group in front of me, making three more groups wait at the desk wanting to pay and get started. Not a good system.
My other criticism is the condition of the outdoor displays. There is a pile of hornet’s nests in the left-hand gunsight bracket on the battleship Colorado gun. There is no signage for the Bell Cobra, nor the M60 Patton (though the latter is new). The mast from USS Nicholas (DD-449) is on its side awaiting installation, but there is nothing to inform visitors what that item is in the meantime - and it’s been there since October 2020. Put up a temporary sign! Similarly, the guns from the Spanish-American War era gunboat USS Concord at the corner of the driveway have no signage explaining what they are or where they came from. I was a little mortified they were using the gun shield to stash their temporary parking signs - it looked trash from any angle but the front. Those are incredibly important and unique relics, not a storage shed.
At least, with the Nick mast and the Concord guns, they have done a great job cleaning and restoring the artifacts compared to how they looked when they came from Portland and Seattle, respectively. I do wish the USS Colorado gun’s sign was in better shape.
I say those things because I have been to a LOT of museums and have an eye for detail. The average visitor won’t notice most, if any, of those things. But that doesn’t stop them from being important details to clean up and fix. Some people (like me) will travel quite a ways to see those items…
All in all, none of what I have said should detract anyone from visiting this place. It is about 1.5 hours SW of Seattle, and a drive best made in the morning before I-5 gets snarled up by bad drivers. Admission is certainly reasonable - cheap even, considering the TREASURE TROVE of history they have on display. It is obvious a lot of work has gone into maintaining the indoor display, and overall the museum exudes - certain budget-constrained excellence that is typical of museums in more rural settings. But, these folks have a more expansive facility, and do a better job than pretty much any other semi-rural museum I’ve visited. They really do a great job and have much to be proud of. Some room for improvement, but much to be proud of nonetheless. I spent an hour outside and 1.5 hours inside, visited mid-day. There were 5-6 other groups there while I was. The interior was ventilated, comfortable, and easy to navigate. They provide a map at the desk. The gate to the outdoor exhibits is opened with the museum apparently. I visited the outdoor items before paying. The shed in the back lot is a must-see, though not marked at all - the door is at the back corner, and they have a light tank, numerous jeeps, a humvee, some aircraft parts, and historic trucks in there. Smells like a garage full of old war machines - always a good thing.
I’d recommend this place for couples looking for a thought-provoking afternoon, and any history buff. I would not recommend it for kids, since there is nothing interactive and the displays hinge on reading the placards. Other than that though, any adult with a moderate attention span will find this place fascinating. I heard lots of “wow” and “whoa” and “ooooh” from the other visitors. Great place, 4 stars, losing one for the poor admission desk procedure and the minor issues with the naval & outdoor displays. Still thrilled with my visit, wouldn’t have missed it for the world - wish I’d found out about it sooner!

If you’re into the fights for freedom which have kept the world free and shown the indomitable spirit which has made America great, this is the place to go to step back it time an learn some of our history, up close & personal.
Literally thousands of exhibits are on display here, including personal effects of not only our own soldiers, but also some from the troops we were fighting. Every war, from our own civil war through Vietnam, are documented here with some very personal items of our soldiers, their uniforms,
weapons, protective gear and weapons.
The volunteer docents are quite knowledgeable and depending upon how busy the museum is, one may have the time to give you a personally guided tour.
Most of it has been made possible through the generosity of their families. There are items here which I had never seen before. Depending on how much of a history buff you are, plan on spending a minimum of 1-2 hours to see it all.

Was great seeing all the pictures and items they had. And the memorial they had in the back for the fallen was amazing! I am glad that we went.

This is one of the best smaller military museums I have been to. It is a lot larger on the inside than it appears from the I-5 freeway nearby. It covers all U.S. wars in a general way with specific attention given to vets of the surrounding geographical area. Its collection of smaller hand and crew-fed weapons is vast. The collection includes a Sten machine gun, and I could not recall seeing one before. It has specific hours and a modest entrance fee.

Focusing on the history of Pacific Northwest veterans, the museum uses static displays to follow the military branches from the Civil War to today.
Weaponry, uniforms, vehicles, flags are all on display for a small fee.
Most items were donated by the vets and their families.
Recent additions include a huge US flag that flew on the USS Abraham Lincoln and a P-51 Mustang suspended from the overhead.
Veteran docents are available to guide you around the displays.
I’m taking my grandchildren there when they are old enough to understand.

After driving by many times, my husband and I finally stopped to check out this small but mighty little museum. As a retired Army, three tour Vietnam vet (1969 -1989) my husband thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely walk through the museum and it's outdoor displays - we spent much of our ride home reminiscing about his/our time in the service, recalling all kinds humorous incidents, old friends and time spent stationed overseas. So glad we stopped!!

I get off at exit 77 to take WA 6 to visit my Dad. I have drove by there many times and never had the time to stop. I was out west visiting my Dad over Fathers day weekend. He is a train buff, I bought tickets for the train ride next door. After the ride was over I asked if he want to see if the museum was open on a Sunday afternoon. It was open for Fathers day with extended hours. I have never seen a collection any where that covers. From the Revolutionary War to present times. My Dad enjoyed talking to other Veteran's that he ran into. He is a Sea Bee and proud of his service from 1953-1963. If you are every traveling down I 5 near exit 77. Its well worth the time spent.
